Once, when I was young, about 7, 8 or 9, I was swimming by myself in a pool and I freaked myself out because I could "swear" I saw the shadow of a big shark swimming in the deep end.

i'm not sure i imagined this, but i was visiting a friend in san diego and we went sea kayaking at la jolla beach; this was the same morning we woke up and watched a news report of a surfer attacked and killed by a greast white shark, upcoast about two miles.

well, after the news report i suggested we not go kayaking but he told me don't worry, etc. i was afraid i'd die out there, this being my first time in a sea kayak, but i was seriously crushing on dude and didn't want him to think me chicken so we went. woosh. scary stuff, man, getting past those breaking waves

we'd been out there for about an hour, and were paddling around near the seal cove when i saw something HUGE under my kayak, something big and white, about five feet down, moving fast. i told dude and he replied it had likely been a big rock, but then said 'let's go ashore now'. so we did.

but that big, huge white rock was MOVING. i'm still convinced it was that effing SHARK!!!! dude would never admit it but i think he thought it was too...

My family and I took a vacation in SoCal in 2008. We went to Huntington Beach and we were just body surfing and having a grand ol' time.

Last year, I saw a documentary on how 2008 was the "Summer of the Shark" and that there had been shark attacks all up and down that same coast. One attack was very close to where we had been, later in the same month we had been there.

It totally sucks. I L.O.V.E. swimming in the ocean and now I'm a big ol' fraidy cat about it!!!
