Tips for slimmer tummy

I hear the recurring theme all the time "Abs are made in the kitchen". At this point, I'm not interested in a washboard stomach, but I really just want to significantly slim my tummy down. So in addition to regular exercise and a balanced diet...what are the specifics? Do I need to start taking multivitamins? Should I avoid starches? Eat more berries with each of my meals?

Tips and advice are welcome.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Usually I do some exercises specifically for the stomach. I also dance a lot, that helps in cardio, plus it's fun. smile Drink lots of water and eat your veggies. You can't lose weight without the veggies and water.

Also get a work out buddy. That'll help you to stay focused.

And don't forget your fibre. biggrin

Fiber holds a lot of water - which can make your stomach puffy. Just sayin'.

For losing weight in general, a low-carb diet is the quickest. But you have to do it right - most people don't realize that when they go from a carb-intensive diet to a low-carb one, they need to take in more protein and/or fat to make up some of those calories. Making sure you get a decent amount of high-quality fat will also keep you from being too hungry.

True, but that's why I also said drink water as well. That'll keep the bloating at a minimum, but at the same time keep the digestive system regular. nod

Thanks for the advice. hug I've just been focusing mainly on cardio lately at the gym but I probably need to get back into strength training again but with light weights so I can get the form right.

Those fitness trainers for the stars say to avoid building up a lot of abdominal muscle until you lose some fat all over, otherwise it will make your gut look even bigger doh!

I'm the mistake you wanna make

Cut out sugar as much as possible and do 20min high intensity interval training 2-3 times a week.

Could you describe for me what you mean by high intensity interval training? Are you talking about alternating between cardio and weights or purely strength training?

This is true - although abdominal muscles are such a thin layer, to begin with, that it's not that big a worry.

I think the main point of that advice is that everyone has a six-pack. The only variation is the thickness of the fat over and/or under it.

It's cardio. For me there's a 3 minute warm up of increasing intensity then you alternate between high and low intensity for 15 minutes and then a 2 minute cool down. It's a short burst and is really only 8 minutes of high intensity effort. I was really unfit but I was surprised how quickly I was getting results.

Okay I see, thanks for the links. I do this sometimes when I work out but not consistently. I'll try doing it 2-3 times a week as you suggested. I think that's doable for my schedule. Thanks a bunch. thumbs up!

It's all about your diet, working out is important, but if you're diet isn't right, it makes no sense.

It takes time to find the right diet, as everybody has a different body.

It's almost impossible to say what will work for you, so try different stuff and see what works for you. Read as much as you can about it and try things.

Yeah this is true. I've lost about 26 pounds since last year, but I'm constantly switching things up. Instead of gaining, my body has a knack for maintaining my weight. So I'll lost about 4 pounds and then stay stagnant for a month or two and then lose again a few months later. It's so frustrating and that's why I'm trying to find a different approach that will keep me steadily losing at a healthy rate. The past month or so I've been extremely terrible. Cookouts and going out of town has thrown me way off course, but this week I'm going to get back on board.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Well, if you've already lost so much you doing something good! But don't get too frustrated about it, you're already doing good. Staying stagnant for a month isn't the end of the world.

I'm really wondering when I became Mr. positive all of a sudden eek
