I think it's corny to call it "Titanic II". Sounds like an awful movie sequel (which if this one is doomed too, it very well could be).

Give it a new name just as powerful as the Titanic. I think folks are going to buy into this though and if it survives its first few voyages, I guess then people will be willing to buy tickets and board ship.

As JoeTyler asked about the class divisions that was one of the first things that entered my brain as well too.

I hope they do a background check on the captain, just sayin'.

The idea does make me curious though.

There was. Honestly it was the most technologically-advanced, biggest ship of that era - which is why it made the news so much in the first place.

There was a media blitz about it at the time, about how awesome it was and how it was supposedly 'unsinkable' and the press turned out in droves to watch it depart on that first voyage.

I do think it's just really a bad idea to try and make another one though for obvious reasons - firstly that it's just disrespectful, secondly because I just think it's a bad omen - why would you try and make a second version of something that wound up being a disaster? Doesn't make sense. I'd be too worried that the new one would sink just like the original.

I'd like to clarify something regardint this "story"...

...alot of you are bemoaning the "waste of money" and channeling money towards charity or what-have-you...

I think that the plan to recreate a vessel with such a horrific legacy is a BAD idea...but the plan to build a luxury cruise liner is not necessary a "waste" of money.

There are THOUSANDS of jobs that this investment will create. From the designers & engineers, to the steelworkers, to the carpenters, to the electrical contractors, mechanical contractors, plumbing contractors, IT, Tech, etc. JUST TO BUILD THE THING. Then the crew who will man the vessel and serve the clients and cook the food and clean the floors and provide entertainment & day care & yoga classes & bartend & everything else you can think of.

Too bad he chose to have the thing MADE IN CHINA though.

He like other companies etc. would rather have countries like China make it coz he can pay less wages rather than pay higher wages to Australians. Talk about cheap labour.....

...not to take away from the craftsmanship of Chinese shipbuilders (whose history goes back further than that of Europe)...but SERIOUSLY if you're going to build the TITANIC II, wouldn't you want the BEST shipbuilders of our era???

They could get a better job than building a ship that would probably sink like the first one did. Yeah that's a good investment.
