She's about 80% fine as hell regardless of her melanin, I know that. But as someone said, when she speaks, she's 20% unlistenable. lol

lol I actually think she's become more tolerable in that regard as she's gotten older. Her acting has much improved, as well. I couldn't watch 'Dark Angel' with the sound on. She was just AWFUL back then.

Oh for real? I couldn't stand her voice on "Honey" and was like "nice but nah..." lol

She's STILL triggering my Blackdar anyway - and it's seldom wrong.

Besides, how scientifically valid can a test administered on a talk show be anyway?

I still say if you shook her family tree some nappy would fall out. lol

The DNA tests are administered before the guests are actually on the show, and the results are revealed in front of the studio audience.

(in totally unrelated news, something about that dang hand intrigues yet scurrs me boxed lol)

Okay, that lends some credence to the whole DNA test thing...but not much.

Cuz like, my Blackdar is never - everrrrr - wrong.

Like...ever. lol

And...that's kinda what I was going for with the hand thing falloff .

It's not cause I WANTED her to be black, I just thought she was, because when I see her, to me she looks more on the black side than the Latino side.

And what do you mean, hand thing?

True. I saw her and immediately assumed she was half black.

Even now though she still looks biracial to me.

Wow... I never once thought she was black or part black... as a mutt myself, I can usually guess who's got what in their family tree just by looking at them lol

** "biracial" isn't just for black and white (same with the old "mulatto" term... one of my great-grandfathers was half Eastern Band Cherokee and half black, and his WWI draft card has him listed as mulatto) -- it simply means: of 2 races.

she's white Latino (and with Mexico [since Latino is not a "race"], it's more of a indigenous/native american [which is considered a racial category])

I don't think you have to be biracial necessarily to be able to 'see' it in others. At least that's been my own experience from firsthand hunches I've had and watching other folks around me do the same.

I think it's more of a 'You just recognize your own' thing than anything else.

And I know that biracial isn't just black and white. But I wasn't going to take the time to post a disclaimer about that when everybody knows that anyway. It makes about as much sense as point out that a horse has four legs.

What I'm wondering from the people who thought she was is...

Is it because you wanted her to be black, or part black, as it were?

Because you didn't?

Because you found her attractive and that's what you wanted her to be?

I'm just wondering, because as a white guy, I don't see it all. I think she's fine as all get out, though, and it wouldn't make any difference to me if she was half, or one quarter, or one eighth ANYTHING. lol

The bold print may be the answer as to why you don't see it(and that's cool). I grew up with many a clone of her back in the day. They were either latin or black.

I'm cool with that - that's why I included it in my comment. nod I'm still not sure why some people see it, or want it to be true, so much WITH HER. I see the Latin in her, but she never looked any kind of Black to me at all. In fact, I would have guessed Asian before Black.

Nah, I didn't have a horse in the race.

And I'll probably get the 'wtf?' look for this, but it isn't that she's amazing looking to me either. Definitely not ugly, in fact she's adorable to me but not the bombshell she is to a lot of others (for me that's more Angelina than Jessica).

So it's not that I wanted her to be black for 'bragging' rights, and I'm not really for or against her as an actress (all I've seen is "Dark Angel").

It's just the simple fact that she looks black to me and has from the moment I first saw her.

I could ask you the same thing - is it a case of you just not seeing it or trying not to, for your own personal reasons/bias?

To me it's kind of telling when someone who isn't black, comes in and kind of throws a fuss about black people making idle comments that she appears to some black blood.

I have always thought she looked "racially ambiguous" which may be part of her massive appeal despite having nary an acting skill

Just about every hot woman has her detractors, but I haven't ever seen anyone say "Jessica Alba? Nah, I just don't see it!" lol

If you're referring to me as the person "throwing a fuss" I think you're looking for something that isn't there. I didn't actually say anything about bragging rights, either. Certainly not how I intended it to read. Nor did I say anything about personal reasons/bias. For whatever reason, I think you're being a bit defensive. I'm simply having a free and open conversation with some folks I've been doing that with for years. There are no hang ups here. If you see any they're only in your mind.

Don't know why I don't see it that way. I guess "It's just the simple fact that she" hasn't "looked black to me and has from the moment I first saw her"

I've lived in large, racially mixed cities my entire life (all of the biggest on the West Coast). My friends have been pretty much evenly split in numbers amongst Black, White, Asian and Spanish for the last twenty years. Conciously, I just see people when I look at people. Subconciously, who knows? I was really just curious.

ThickeGirl

I heard from a Mexican who was doing research on Mexican ancestry, that Mexicans with the last name that starts with an A and another letter I can't think of, have black ancestry

I swore she was black when I saw her in Never Been Kissed and Dark Angel

Then she had to have black parents in Honey

Look, kid - I don't give a shit about you or your thoughts. If you want an argument, find someone else dumb enough to take the bait.
