RICKY BERENS WARDROBE MALFUNCTION IN ROME

Swimsuitopen-01

What happens in Rome ... does not stay in Rome wink

U.S. swimmer Ricky Berens swimsuit had some sort of malfunction, I mean it's so tight that it is not surprising to me! Yesterday uring FINA World Championships in Rome, Ricky Berens's swimsuit split while he bend over ... to get a drink minutes before the race ... so unfortunate wink

There was no time to change the suit, so U.S. anchor leg Cullen Jones urged Berens to forget the gaping hole and swim. Berens dived in and contested his third leg as scheduled, helping the U.S. team to a fourth-place finish in its heat in 3 minutes, 11.64 seconds and securing a critical slot in the night’s final for Phelps and his teammates...Berens, the 2009 Big 12 Swimmer of the Year from Texas, was not available to comment on the suit problem. Jones, though, said tears were becoming increasingly common as swimmers sought the tightest-fitting suits possible for the greatest performance-enhancement. 'They’re all splitting,' Jones said. 'We’re all having problems. We want to get it as tight as possible as sprinters.'”

I think swimming in London will be closely watched.

Hey - if it helps them swim faster, I say give them all a little window back there!

I've always liked the swimmer's body. Yum.

I'm surprised they allowed him to swim anyway, considering how mindful they are of aerodynamics.

They even shave their heads to diminish drag.

I imagine that the opening cost him a few hundredths of a second.

He didn't have an option. It was swim or fail to take to the water.

It would cost him and his team (in a relay) but he won anyway.

Yeah I saw that, but I was thinking that if I was the coach, I would get the nearest swimmer to strip and lend him his suit right then-&-there. Just get two people to hold up towels and the whole ordeal could be over in seconds.

But I guess that the "drag" consideration wasn't that big of a deal.

Someone's intentionally tearing these suits just for the headlines! Come on now.

Swimmer tears bathing sui...ael Phelps

A split bathing suit couldn't hold back Nathan Adrian at the Indianapolis Grand Prix. The 2008 relay gold medalist overcame a tear in his bathing suit to win the 100-meter freestyle over a stacked field that included Olympic legend Michael Phelps.

While crouching on the block before the start of Thursday night's final, Adrian felt a tear down the middle of his rear. His tight-fitting Speedo FS3 had split, leaving him with an exposed backside and considerably more drag than he'd have liked.

Adrian dove in anyway -- "what could I do?" he said. The rip didn't have an effect on the result. He touched the wall in 48.62, more than one-tenth of a second ahead of a hard-charging Phelps. That time was good enough to be the 11th-fastest time in the world this year, but likely would have been considerably faster had the suit not split.

Bringing us back to the days of the original Olympics! thumbs up!
