A Warren man has been charged with beating his girlfriend after an argument about her Facebook friends turned violent, police said.

Roy Richard Masters, 39, felt that the 30-year-old woman has too many Facebook friends who are men, sparking the dispute Sunday at their home on Peter Kaltz Drive, police said.

The woman alleged that at one point, the suspect hit her on top of the head with a laptop computer, Detective Cpl. Kevin Borycz said Monday.

Police said she left the home and returned about nine hours later. That’s when she was repeatedly punched and kicked -- an attack that was witnessed by two kids, ages 10 and 5, who are the children of a person who rents a room from the couple, Borycz said.

“At one point he brandished a utility knife and threatened her with it,” Borycz said.

The victim fled to a neighbor’s home, but Masters got into a van and drove on the sidewalk after her. The woman claimed she had to dive out of the way to avoid being struck by the vehicle, the detective said.

Warren Fire Department paramedics transported the woman to St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital in Madison Heights, where she was treated for cuts to her face, arms and back, police said.

Masters was arraigned Monday on two counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and single counts of felonious assault; domestic violence third offense; interfering with a crime report; and second-offense driving while his license was suspended, police reported.

Judge Matthew Sabaugh of the 37th District Court set bond at $200,000 cash or surety. A preliminary hearing to determine whether Masters should stand trial is scheduled for March 13.

if it wasn't this, it would have been her skirt too short, or the man in the liquor store looked at her too long. The reason is irrelevant (it's simply been mentioned to sensationalise).

Men that beat up on women are pathetic cowardly bullies that don't deserve a loving wife. She better leave this guy and never go back to him. He needs years of therapy and rehabilitation (and even then probably won't change his ways) and she deserves someone who will treasure her.

I heard that story. What I didn't understand, though, was that they said he changed his name and got married again. What was the connection if they were supposedly married to 2 "different" men?

Anyway... the fool in the OP should be severely punished!

Sad. One wrong spot and he could have killed her. I'm glad she's alright and he needs to go on trial, no excuses.

I believe that facebook suggests friends based on email addressbook. So, if the man had an email that he shared with both woman-that would be the link through facebook.

Actually, that is sooooo NOT true. Any abuser knows who he can f--- with and who he needs to leave alone. Most abusers will be quick go to beat a defenseless woman or child but will never stand up to a man his own size. Bitch ass punks who are insecure and have control issues. They are almost always cowardly when contronted to someone who will give them a good fight.

Unless the abuser has a mental illness, he/she can very much control what they do. They never try that sh!t with women who are quick to call police and reach out for help. They know what type of women to do that to.

I have met men who will hit one chick, but not another because of fear of her brothers/father/police. Yes, most women are taught to be afraid to go for help or call police. Espeically when some women abuse the system making it hard for real victims of abuse.

I am always glad to hear when a woman does stand up and puts her safety first.
