Moneyball

A bit over-rated, and definitely pumped up with Hollywood drama dust, but still pretty good, and relevant to the real world. I am not a big Brad Pitt fan, and am not swayed by this, but he didn't detract from the movie, at least.

4 out of 5

Harlepolis

Watched it in a college screening with one of my girlfriends because it was one of the films she was required to incorporate in her assessment.

Two hours with only two guys having a conversation. Expected it to be mundane & pretentious, turned out to be really enjoyable,,,,

Very much liked this. 7.5/10

I really liked this movie too. Very well done. The book was better, but the movie was very good too.

It was too sappy. Workaholic dad bonds with his estranged daughter while sentimental Hawaiian music plays in the background. barf

Well it beats the hell out of most of the crap movies out there. I really enjoyed, but like I said, the book was better. I found both to be emotional, sad, funny and very realistic.

Great movie, I have this in my collection.

I was watching season one of Mad Men and one episode referenced the film so I thought it was a good time to pull it off the shelf and watch it. It looks fantastic on blu-ray.

Coincidentally, BUtterfield 8 was referenced in the first episode of Mad Men season two which I had totally forgotten when I watched both the movie and episode back to back this weekend. omg

If you seen The Artist, there's one scene that's virtually the same from The Apartment. The Director of The Artist is a big fan of the movie and probably did that as an homage.

Aftershock

4/5 centered around the 1976 earthquake in China. A mother of twins forced to choose between the life of son over her daughter and what happens after. A devastating earthquake scene, Had me tearing up several times.

Looking at the title and the movie poster, I wasn't going to watch this. But something drew me to it. This movie was disurbing and chilling. Part science fiction, (although it could conceivably happen) part love story. Betrayal in this movie is much worse than in a normal world. I will be thinking about this for a long time and I'm ordering the book.

I’ve committed myself to plugging some glaring movie gaps this year, & as part of that I watched Paths of Glory last night. I'm probably going to watch it again this weekend to coalesce my impressions of it.

I've seen both movies, but don't recall any similarities. I'll watch The Artist again when it's on disc and keep an eye out.

3/5 to feel like nowhere is home, about a divorced Palastine woman moving to America with her son just after the start of the Iraq War. Simple, sad with sweet moments.

I loved the book - it was like reading an English teen boarding school memoir. It was all so ordinary and matter of fact but also so awful and inhumane.

Saw this movie today. For those of you who are not aware, this is very loosely based on the TV drama series of the same name which aired on FOX during the late 1980's and 1990 when the network first started out. The premise of the series was that the LAPD had a special detective project which used very young looking cops to go undercover as high school students to bust various criminals dealing drugs, raping high school girls, bullies, etc. It was considered quite groundbreaking at the time it was made, and it launched the career of Johnny Depp.

However, this movie is a straight up pratfall comedy in the tone of Rush Hour/The Other Guy with a lot of teen movie comedies thrown in. I thought this looked really silly from the promos and had planned on skipping this movie, but there were a ton of really good reviews for this, so I checked it out. There were some really funny scenes in this movie, but I didn't think it was all amazing as the critics would have had me believe it was. Then again, I liked the original TV series, and this movie strayed really far away from the spirit of that series. At least the Starsky and Hutch movie with Ben Stiller played homage to the original TV series and didn't trash it like this movie did with the original 21 Jump Street. 2.5/5 stars

TiMER

3.2/5 The implant device is a timer which gives a person a countdown to when they will meet their soulmate IF that person also has the device. Oona's device remains blank since her soulmate hasn't chosen the implant yet so she's left in limbo, her same age stepsister has 5,000+ days on hers, Oona's 9th grade brother has 3 days on his. A sweet comedy.

I read that the movie leaves so much out...they had no choice. I must get this book.
