Now I'm curious about what people mean when they say parents should talk to their kids about sex? The fundementals? Graphic details such as positions? What are kids expecting to hear from their parents?

It differs depending on the age of the child. I hate to sound like a broken record, but there are books to help guide parents through "the talk", which should really be "the talkS". Kids will be curious about sex throughout their childhood. As awkward as it can be, parental guidance on the subject is vital.

Yeah, the subject matter should be spoken about in stages and often enough where the child isn't afraid to ask qiestions.

No talk about birds and bees. When my period started - at school - I locked myself in the girls loo - thought I was dying. I stayed there all day until a teacher came in, took me aside and explained it all to me.

i was 12 when i got my period, i was also at school. i was afraid to tell anyone so i tied my jacket around my waist to hide the blood stains on pants. it was a nightmare for me. sad

No. But I always remember being aware of sex. I just didn't know about making babies and periods and stuff like that until I overheard my brother and sister laughing about my pregnant aunt having to have sex with my uncle. falloff

lol NOPE.

Back when MTV was MTV (Prince and the hair bands, the rappers) , when steamy love scenes were glamorous and dramatic....that's what got it started. By the time sex ed came around, that's where I learned everything else in 5th grade. Basically I learned from HBO, Showtime, and a scrambled version of the Spice channel.

lol Me and a old school homie still laugh about that crap. And on top of that, we BOTH learned because we wrote a dirty ol' book with poorly drawn sex scenes in it.

My mother never did. At 17 my dad started giving me cases of condoms every month because he said I wouldn't want to be getting anyone pregnant at that age. I learned about sex from watching Jennifer Wells, Seka, Vanessa Del Rio, Ebony Ayes, Jeanie Pepper, Traci Lords, John Holmes, Ron Jeremy, Long John Silver, Billy Dee, Peter North ect.

I was 10 when I started mine. It's extra embarrassing when you know you're the only one in the whole school that has it, especially when we haven't had the class that even tells us about periods.

I found with at least with my kids, it never went like it says in textbooks. Even to this day my son who's 20, reluctantly talks with me about anything doing with sex. When he was younger he loathed it. I ended having to get someone else to talk to him which he still acted like he was being tortured. Even my daughter didn't respond the way the books tell you, she was not happy the first talk and spent 10 minutes telling me about it, I found her reaction kind of amusing though. So I wonder even it parents try, would kids be happy with the information or is there always the issue that they never hear what they really want to hear.

Shit...I remember the DATE mine came.

September 6th, 2001.

I was eleven. And luckily, it happened in the morning before I went for my first day of school. Moment I saw it, I just screamed for my mother. She explained it all to me and set me up straight. What I didn't expect from it was cramps. neutral

They did in a way. by the time I was four I'd already taught myself how to read. They took the opportunity to buy me a kids book explaining it in simple terms.

I can still remember being fascinated by the pictures. Later on when I started school I proceeded to tell everyone all abou it in detail. lol

Wow, that is basically my story too

My dad did attempt to give me the most awkward, some-what sex talk ever, after my mother confessed to him that she was concerned because my best friend at the time was a lesbian lol

If you will, so will I

Really? We got separated boys and girls both times, I think it was about an half-hour to an hour everyday for 3 day to a week. My kids had it too so I know it wasn't something back in my day. Yep, y'all are weird.

I had sex ed starting in fifth grade. They taught us all kinds of stuff. For example, at that time I thought "nuts" and "dick" were the same thing.

Then in eighth grade they taught us how to put a condom on a cucumber.

It's what you make it.

Cool. I don't feel so lonely. "They" didn't show us a condom in 5th or (think it was) 7th, just told us what it was and what it was suppose to do. By the time my kids came along they were showing them, I think it was a banana for them.
