Bizarre Foods

I was watching the travel channel..and apparently Chilean Ranchers, after castrating their bulls, eat their testicles and scrotums in soup form. eek

This is something you can buy from a Chilean Market place:

That is by far....the most bizarre food I've ever seen. But they say it's a delicacy. Never tried it though.

What other bizarre foods have you encountered? Have you tried it? Was it any good? What did it taste like?

The most bizarre food Ive ever tried was balut also called duck embryo. A delicacy in Southeast Asia.

Its a fertilized duck egg with an almost delevoped embryo inside. Its then boiled and served in the shell with chili and salt.

I was asked by a Vietnamese woman to try it and I couldnt refuse because that wouldnt be nice. But it was awful! I just kept chewing and chewing and chewing until I could swallow it.

It's like an egg but taste like duck/chicken. And there are veins and feathers in it.

Heres the picture I took of it..

My friends from the Phillipines eat that. That's one dish I'll never try confused

People round these parts have been eating Rocky mountain oysters and turkey fries all the time... I find it disgusting and have only tasted them after being tricked into it by being told it was a chicken gizzard pissed We actually have big gatherings centered around eating them...

I spent the nite a gf"s house once and her mom put dried cow balls in the scrambled eggs barf They were a hardcore czech cookin family! But she made some mean kolache's!! drooling

Ive eaten squirrel, rabbit, many different types of birds, fried cow brains, ox tail soup and Jaternice Sausage, which imo is the most disgusting tasting and textured crap ever! Most times I loved food from my heritage, but a few things are soooooooo gross!! lol

Hispanics eat a myriad of strange foods (just like any other culture)...

...as a child, the most bizarre things that my mom would make me eat, I think, are; fried chicken gizzards, pig's feet and oxtail.

Pig's feet are nasty.

Chicken gizzards (fried) are ok.

Oxtail are delicious the way she makes it (stewed?).

Never had pig's ears, cow tongue, tripe, brain, testicles or any of that other stuff.

You have Puerto Rican family and have NEVER eaten that stuff??? Not even sancocho?

That stuff is the norm in our diets in stews. No part of the animal is wasted... not even damn chicken feet (used to flavor stews).

My in-laws never cooked anything more exotic than octopus salad ill and "bacalao" in olive oil drool and when we ever went to a "cuchifrito" place in the Bronx, I stuck to "Alcapurria's" and "papa relleno".

My ex loved, LOVED, "morcilla" (blood sausage)................figures. razz

I adore Andrew Zimmern. Though I'd never stay in the same proxmity of any of the food he tries. As I'm getting older my adventuresome spirit has wane a bit as far as trying foods, I know what taste, textures and smells appeal to me and that's as far as I wanna go. Then again I've had some bad experiences I don't care to ever re-live again.

I love octopus salad drooling ... not too crazy about bacalo (saltfish salad) even though my mom makes a MEAN bacalo...

there's this dish made with chopped gizzards, bell pepper , onion, and I think pig ears that is actually REALLY good! For the life of me I can not remember the name of it.

I never cook half the stuff my mom makes because I am afraid to touch the ingredients. lol

I try to picture in my head how she would hook up the brains.... fried?

She would break them up and scrabble them with eggs.
