'Fresh Prince' Star RIPS WILL SMITH I'll Never Reunite w/ that 'A**hole'

Aunt Viv on Fresh Prince of Bel Air
The woman who played the original Aunt Viv on "Fresh Prince of Bel Air" says there's a damn good reason she wasn't at a recent reunion dinner with the rest of the Banks family -- she HATES Will Smith.

15 years after the show went off the air ... Janet Hubert tells TMZ she's still upset with the way she was fired from the show ... and blames the whole thing on Smith himself.

"There will never be a reunion ... as I will never do anything with an a**hole like Will Smith," Hubert said.

She adds, "He is still an egomaniac and has not grown up. This constant reunion thing will never ever happen in my lifetime unless there is an apology, which he doesn't know the word."

Hubert has said in the past she believes Smith is to blame for her departure in the middle of the show's run -- claiming he turned on her because she wouldn't kiss his butt.

But Smith refuted the claims after Hubert left the show in 1993 -- telling an Atlanta radio station Hubert simply had a bad attitude which played a major role in her demise.

Smith told the radio station, "[Hubert] said once, 'I've been in the business for 10 years and this snotty-nosed punk comes along and gets a show.' No matter what, to her I'm just the AntiChrist."

We called Smith for comment -- so far, no response.

The only part of this story that is left out was the fact that Janet was pregnant around the time of her falling out with Will.

I take it that Janet didn't get the memo from executive producer Quincy Jones stating that Will was The Fresh Prince in the show's title.

And the drama continues..................... But I love the unknown behind the scenes stories that Alfonso tells.

I really liked her as the first Aunt Viv but I believe Alfonso.. I really think that she had a problem working with Will.... She said it herself... she had put in years of work and here comes this snot nosed punk and he's the star... But I still liked her better in the role..

A black actress(the MOST undesirable employee that Hollywood ever had to "deal" with, and still gets looked at with obvious contempt) in a primetime TV show, hired by somebody who was courageous enough to ignore the "brown paper bag" unspoken rule(OH YES! I'm taking it there), as a CO-LEAD, in one of the most famous TV shows at that time, probably THEE ONLY time she was ever exposed to mainstream status which could've opened doors for her.

And what happens? She got fired for speaking out when a bunch of young shit balls didn't show professionism, while the rest of the cast had to suck it up because they didn't wanna mess with their paper, understandably.

Bitter? Imagine being fired from one of the most prosperous jobs you've scrapped a lifetime to earn, ONLY to get the pink slips because a bunch of nitwits - who, lets face it, compared to her are outsiders to the profession - didn't give a damn enough to show respect to the work environment. Lets see how easy it is to tell your own ass to "get over it".

Ya'll are passing judgement for the hell of it.

Exactly. Not mentioning she got blacklisted and it was hard for her to get work after it was all said and done. Her being angry and resentful still is understandable.

[Edited 12/27/11 19:54pm]

THAT^ is the real ending to the story that pissed me off the most. The fact that Janet was never hired by another TV sitcom at all is totally mess up. disbelief

Janet was not blacklisted . She has worked several TV shows since "Fresh Prince". She is an accomplished actress & if your really talented. It always prevails...

Hubert was also featured in a 2002 episode of Friends as Chandler's boss. In 2005 she began playing the recurring role of Lisa Williamson, mother of attorney Evangeline Williamson, on the soap opera One Life to Live. Her character has made occasional appearances since then. She was also featured as Michel Gerard's mother in an episode of the CW show Gilmore Girls and also made an appearance in an episode ofThe Bernie Mac Show, playing Mac's overbearing mother-in-law. She has made an appearance in an episode of Tyler Perry's House of Payne.

FWIW, I remember how some of the original writers (the Borowitzes?) were fired, Will had commented that "everyone" was happy to see them go, and Janet then released a statement that she wasn't part of that "everyone" (or something to that effect, this is from memory).

Regardless of who was to blame, everybody lost. The show wasn't the same without her IMO, Daphne Maxwell Reid was a terrible replacement, and the whole thing unraveled. Why on earth they thought they needed a baby... disbelief

It was a classic shoot-self-in-the-foot move from the show's producers, not even their confidence about the show's success saved the ratings from going down. And poor James Avery looked awkward with Viv #.2 lol

And folks are at it again with the "bitter" business disbelief sympathatic bunch.

I understand why they let her go. Her attitude seemed to be ruining the atmosphere on the set

BUT the show definitely lost it's luster after she was gone and they replaced her with Viv#2. Maybe something could've been resolved to keep her

Same thing with Family Matters neutral the second mom was HORRIBLE and the show was OVA right after

I'm not a Scientology fan. I think Will Smith is a fool for getting involved with those folk.

But I will say this.

Having worked with him for a minute, I will say he treats everyone really well, appears to be a gentleman, and had little to no EGO. He has drive. He has ambition. But he's not a d**k.

As for this woman...who knows why she said what she said? Only the other cast members can shed light on that.

I agree with you on Scientology. I know a lot about it from being in contact with members from the early 80s and I am very sorry that Will got caught up in that mess. Does Will have an ego? Yes. Has he been misdirected recently? Yes. But I doubt anyone is worried too much about what happened on a show they were on two decades ago...except for this woman. Even if Will, in his egotistical youth, was responsible for her demise on the show--so what?!!!

thumbs up!

He is the nicest person in the entertainment Industry. Will was still very young when he did "Fresh Prince". So young people act a fool sometimes. Plus that was his very first show that he was also starring in.It had to be a lot of pressure on him at the time. Some people are picked to be mega stars & Will was one of them & still is.

I personally blame Quincy Jones for this mess. The Fresh Prince of Bel Air was a vehicle needed to make Quincy's boy Will Smith a star (and I say "boy" loosely, given Quincy's history with Tevin & 2pac and all...... lurking) . Even if Janet was in the right & Will & the other cast members were in the wrong , the point is Will Smith was THE star and irreplaceable.

OK I'm so tired of hearing bits and pieces of these Quincy Jones and Tupac gay rumors. Can someone please clarify this for me? lol

No doubt. The unbending steel-under-velvet personna that might have been off putting in real life worked great for the character on the show. I didn't like the wimpy replacement. lol
