Woooo-hooo! Between this and the new Ani album news I'm totally geeoking out. So glad Peter Jackson ended up directing these. I think its right that they look so much like the LOTR trilogy.

A whole year? Now you know Peter will have a whole different movie by then given how he was about LotR. Weren't there scenes in those trailers that ended up being edited out of the movie so that other scenes could be added or changed. He's too obsessive to believe everything in the trailer is in the movie.

Probably true but what I got from the trailer and all I was really looking for is that it looks and feels like the LOTR trilogy. I want that continuity. Innitially I was concerned that what with the Hobbit as a book being more for kids that it would take on a Burtonesque feel to the production. I expect the movie will be more childish but as long as it looks right then I'm good. Trust PJ, he is the man and he is very passionate about it. I don't fear a George Lucasesque fuck up by any means.
Still gutted that the scouring of the shire was not in the movies though. I understand why though. If the milk turns out to be sour, I aint the kinda pussy to drink it!

I dont know from what Ive read hes playing with the canon, The only Hobbit in the book is Bilbo, but PJ is putting other hobbits in it and also Elijah Wood. It may work fine and I'm not really worried but he does seem to be trying to connect the book with the trilogy more than Tolkein did.
I never much cared for The Hobbit I think I made the mistake of reading it after the Lord of the Rings and was a bit bored through out it.
I do like the look of it. The Most Important Thing In Life Is Sincerity....Once You Can Fake That, You Can Fake Anything.

He is/they are. Hopefully there will be extensive special features explaining exactly what they did to the story like there was on the LOTR EE sets. But from what I've read so far it sounds like they're largely using the LOTR appendices, Unfinished & Lost Tales to fill in some of the blanks regarding what COULD HAVE happended when characters disappear for 50-100 pages at a time. The quick scene with Gandalf and Galadriel in the trailer is one of those moments. Then they're going to loosely tie it in with the happenings in the Shire at some point around the LOTR, but prior to Gandalf's return and Bilbo's departure. Evidently they only shot Ian Holm for a few days, so the older Bilbo portion of the film isn't going to be very big.
All that being said, I'm really not expecting 6-7 hours of The Hobbit, even if they do end up releasing extended versions. I bet its more like 4-5.

I wish Guillermo Del Toro had still been able to direct it. Hopefully some of his input will still be seen in the final cut. Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
