Me too! Well, my 1st year, anyway. Lived in the dorms on C.I ( the former sanitatium, as rumor had it) and attended classes in Old Westbury. Good times!

First of all, Kim, going back to school is really commendable... good luck to both of you. It sounds like you've got it all figured out already, which is great!
I attended Moorhead State Teacher's College in MN. which is now Moorhead State University, making it a more well-rounded school for a lot of different careers now; I also (like Purplejedi) commuted and worked almost full-time besides so really didn't get the whole college experience either...but then I went right after high school. When you get a little older, a community college or online school does make more sense. I know I wouldn't want to be in a classroom full of 18-22 yos anymore!

Yeah, the Central Islip campus WAS formerly part of the Pilgrim State psychiatric facility.
Around '88/89 I was mostly in the Midge Karr fine arts building with assorted classes in the 300/400 buildings.

Kim...I have done all my college classes via online. I love it! I have found that online classes are a bit more time consuming, but it's worth it for sure. Proud Memaw to Seyhan Olivia Christine ,Zoey Cirilo Jaylee & Ellie Abigail Lillian

A top notch university. One of the best in the nation, and I cherish my education from that institution.
Having said that, it's extremely expensive, and unless your child has at least a 1300 SAT score or a 30 composite ACT score, I would not recommend going there. Not because I think other people's children are idiots, but because most state schools can give just as good an education for a fraction of the price. The only thing most students are guaranteed to receive after getting their degree from an Ivy League school or elite school like Stanford, Duke, MIT, John Hopkins, or Northwestern is a whole lot of debt.
In fact, Cal-Berkley, Michigan, and Texas are all state schools, and they consistently rank among the top-rated colleges in the nation every year. But they're almost as expensive as Ivy League schools if you come from out of state.
But more importantly, what does your child want to do? If your child wants the whole college experience, then I would recommend a four-year college which you can afford. If he/she just wants to get enough classes that interest him/her to get a decent paying job within two years, then just find a decent community college with a good program in what interests them and attend that. You'll save a whole lot of money that way.

DePaul University. It is very expensive but I was fortunate enough to get a scholarship and two grants.
They have an excellent online program.
Would I do this again? I honestly don't know. I know more now than I did before but it has been a very grueling process.

Where are you based, kimrachell? Isn't distance/the need to relocate affecting your options and selections?
