nod One of my favorite actors of all time. And to think Paramount were trying to cast him as "Fredo" in "The Godfather" until Francis Ford Coppola intervened. It's always amazing to see his early movies and then watch his movies now and see the same exact intensity and passion in his craft. He's definitely #1 in my book!!!! So hard to believe the man is 71!!! cool

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

The end credits to "Carlito's Way" are running right now in another tab on Netflix lol .

I've been on this jag where I've been watching a lot of his movies lately, all of them I've seen for the first time, like "Cruising", "Panic in Needle Park", the one I mentioned above, "Dog Day Afternoon" and "And Justice For All"...and none of them have sucked. eek

And I thought it was just me who thinks he's hot as hell lol . Makes me wish I'd been born a few decades earlier. boxed

he's obviously a talented actor and has been in many great films. but he also tends to overact which i find very annoying.

Pacino and DeNiro lick

he does get loud when he acts .... but its a good loud, (equal to the stylings of Samuel Jackson's angry rants, Deniro's scowls, Nicholson's smile.... I can go on about the greats in acting)... lengendary in the art of acting captured on film.

Pacino's loudness is part of his vibe and I love it when he figures out how to incorporate that loudness in any character and it works. He is an amazing talent.

The only movie I've seen of his where he overacts is "Scarface" and in all honesty, it suited the general tone of the entire movie, which is pretty over the top to begin with. It wouldn't have made much sense for him to play Tony Montana as some really understated, mellow guy anyway. You can't be an understated mellow dude and create a drug cartel dynasty in that short a time period. lol

He is totally ridiculous at times (especially lately) but I don't find it annoying. It's often amusing, but he is nearly always a joy to watch. A master of the craft.

Great actor, but his greatness is over shadowed, by probably being the most type cast actor ever.

But when you think of the other names being banded about on this thread, he may be just an also ran... boxed

...He's played plenty of other roles that weren't gangsters, but yeah, it does seem like half of his filmography is centered around that type of thing because he's so damn good at those roles....so I think he got put in a bit of a position where that started to be the only type of role he was offered, which I know must've annoyed the shit out of him confused .

But in most of the movies I mentioned earlier, and pretty much all his greatest performances, he didn't play a gangster; in "Dog Day" he played an everyday guy who wound up robbing a bank out of desperation and even then the guy wasn't a hard-ass thug, he was actually really polite and cordial with the hostages in the bank, it was really funny because it was obvious this guy he was portraying, was not a criminal and didn't have a vicious bone in his body. Pacino was outstanding in "...And Justice for All" as well and in that one, he played a lawyer.

I've seen some of the work of the other actors mentioned in this thread, and yeah, they're good, but Pacino is light years ahead of them imo and actually a lot of the criticisms I see leveled here against Pacino actually seem to apply more to someone like De Niro (who in the movies I saw was always constantly screaming at people, barring "Sleepers"), than someone like Pacino. I think the problem is that the particular roles Pacino is most known for, like "Scarface", were kind of 'loud' roles so people who aren't familiar with the rest of his work, assume that's his typical, standard acting style, which isn't true.

I think he is a bit overrated. I think a lot of his fandom came from the Godfathers I and II and Dog Day Afternoon and then he just cruised his way into icon status much the way Julia Roberts cruised her way into icon status after Pretty Woman and Sleeping With the Enemy.

Al Pacino's talents pale in comparison to say Gene Hackman or Robert Dinero.

As for his looks, he's cute but his eyes are rather large for his face. He does have the best head of hair I've seen on a man save for Jon BonJovi and Prince. Beautiful mane he had.

I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

I love both Pacino and Deniro. Although as someone stated earlier Pacino can over do it sometime. His accent in "Scarface" was ridiculous to me. But I still enjoyed the movie.

nod It seems to me the over the top acting started around the time of his filming "... And Justic For All". Funny, I saw all of his movies in the 70's and now I avoid Pacino's films on cable at all cost.

pacino is one of the greatest actors of all time...no doubt about that...although i agree he does overact sometimes but he was brilliant in the godfather...

.

but the greatest actor of all time has to be brando....and pacino would be the first to say so...

.

before elvis...before james dean...before de niro...there was marlon brando...and they all owe him a great deal for their success later...

.

Brando is Pacino's idol?

Even if he is, I'd have to disagree with Pacino on that. I think it's a case of the student becoming (or surpassing) the teacher. shrug

Have you ever buried your nose in a mountain of curls... just wanted to go to sleep forever? Or lips... and when they touched, yours were like... that first swallow of wine... after you just crossed the desert. Tits. Hoo-ah! Big ones, little ones, nipples staring right out at ya, like secret searchlights. Mmm. Legs. I don't care if they're Greek columns... or secondhand Steinways. What's between 'em... passport to heaven. I need a drink."

When it comes to Pacino & Deniro, I'm such a big fan. I couldn't choose between them if you asked me though, I love them both for different reasons.

I've always dreamt of having Michael Corleone as my boyfriend, I'm so born in the wrong era pout

...As much as I love Pacino, I have yet to actually sit down and watch The Godfather. Seriously, I've seen none of those movies. There's been times they've been on tv and I've sat down to watch them like, "Okay, now I'm gonna finally watch this", then I always end up getting up doing other stuff. They just don't hold my attention.
