Mickey Rouke's "Homeboy"

I can see people hating this film, but it stands up really well and Mickey's acting is supurb in it. It's slow but quite beautiful in the way it's shot and the score fits in very well.

Obscure but well worth a look.

Thanks for the recommendation. I haven't seen that, but I'm a big fan of Rourke's acting. My favorite movie of his (so far) is Barfly. Another one that's well worth checking out.

What's interesting is that it's not your typical sports movie like "The Wrestler (which was great) or "rocky" (which I also like) etc... in that it is not a typical rise and fall story. I won't spoil it but it's just about a man who fights in small arena's etc.., Mickey even asks his trainer was he good enough to go all the way, and he doesn't answer him LOL obviously implying he never was that great to begin with.

it's a lovely film about boxing LOL. Unusual but true. Shame new DVD covers go for the "rocky" angle which is completely wrong.
