Pusher trilogy (1996/2004/2005): explores the drug life in the underworld of Copenhagen. all three films are excellent with very interesting characters. "what's that book where they're all behind the wardrobe?"

Probably the last movie I've watched that I'd never seen before, was "Black Swan", which was REALLY good to me - on a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give it about an eight.
I watched "The Fly" the other day though - I hadn't seen it since I was a kid, and frankly I don't know how I watched that and didn't end up traumatized or mentally ill - but it's a pretty good movie imo. Probably one of the oddest things I've ever seen. I'd rank it at about a 7 on the same scale. "I don't think you'd do well in captivity." - random person's comment to me the other day

F is for Fake
Orson Welles...it was a great movie or "film Essay" or whatever. There were things I full-on hated in the movie but other aspects of it were out of this world.

Bridesmaids. 7/10
I thought it would be funnier, but it was ok. My GF laughed twice, she has no sence of humour.

Sleekly shot. Visually stylish. But I'm not big on the violence. Waaay too many bloody shoot-outs for me...and I was massively creeped out that the Russian mobster that looks like/may be the dude from "A Serbian Film", truly the most disturbing and traumatizing film ever made. My taste for heist films run more along the lines of the Ocean's 11 series, where the bad boy "protagonists" rely on cleverness and sheer cunning to get in and out of their heist situations. But for what it is, this film isn't so bad if you don't mind all the heavy artillery.

It's got so many cool things in it, but it's getting dated now

Priest - 2/5 boring for the most part, but enjoyed the finale, got a kick out of Karl Urban looking like Clint Eastwood.
PotC 4 - 1.8/5 boring, got the feeling they were still sitting around a table delivering their lines with a whole bunch of acrobatics and fight sequences strung together with half asinine storyline. What was done to the mermaids with that wild card was ridiculous cheap.
Jumping the Broom - 2.5/5 liked it but not memorable, the scenery and the whole look of the movie made it, got a giggle or 2 out of it, and it was sweet.
Thor - 2.8/5 liked it but keep feeling like Iron Man should be showing up to help out, didn't have that stand on it's own feel.
Rio - 3/5 cute and enjoyable, not Finding Nemo worthy but fun.
The Illusionist - 3/5 the ending made me very sad, which is pretty good for this type of animated movie, I got emotionally vested. [Edited 5/23/11 10:29am]

Have you seen Tron Legacy? After watching that, all the effects in Fifth Element look lame
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Kind'a like apples & oranges though. TRON was all high-tech special effects, while Fifth Element was more "rubber masks and model ships on wires" to add to its purposely "camp" style.
Star Wars Episodes I, II & III had flashier special effects even than Fifth Element, but didn't have its soul.

Saw Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides over the weekend. I enjoyed it. I would give it 4 out of 5 stars. I fell asleep on part three of this franchise. still haven't seen it to this day.

you reckon? when I first saw it I wasn't thinking it was purposely made to be bad

Oh come on...any movie that starts with Luke Perry in an "Indiana Jones" getup has to be taken at face value!
...and tell me that you don't see the "Ruby Rod" character as a caricature of ??? By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

they wanted Prince, and couldn't get him!
"Besson wrote the part of Ruby Rhod, the squealing sidekick to Bruce Willis's macho cab driver, for none other than Prince. Director and actor even got as far as meeting to discuss the role" [Edited 5/24/11 19:17pm] My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

which is weird because I can't see Prince playing that role at ALL, at least not as camp and fem and flamboyant as Ruby ended up!

I might check that out tonight. surviving on the thought of loving you, it's just like the water
I ain't felt this way in years...

I'm sure it changed with the recasting... but the elements off Prince are there, seducing flight attendants, a pop star... costumes... a kind of faux femme persona...okay maybe that's it. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

I agree the larger than life persona could be associated with Prince, but off-stage Prince is always so shy and reserved! it's like a reputation not a reality that inspired the role
