Yeah, that'd be my expression too, if I was a young kid and saw pictures of a woman eating another one's hooch.

Did you know that stuff was going to be there? I'm guessing not. I'm hoping not.

why are non artists such philistines?

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Is it helpful to shelter kids from sexuality? Maybe it would be healthier to be straightforward about it straight away?

There's a proper time and place to discuss sex with your kids.

I think Erin's son is 5, maybe 6. IMO, he's a good 5 years+ away from "the talk" (or rather, the first of many talks), and an art show dang sure isn't the place to introduce ANY kid to sex, regardless of age.

no, not really.

But I will say that, of the numerous gallery showings I've been to, the majority of the work (much of it really well done) seems to be flipped out insanity. Ghoul art. That's just my take on it.

Paging johnart...

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Well, this is to say she hasn't discussed sexuality with him before. And are we sure that there's something unhealthy about discussing sex with kids from the get-go?

Are you kidding me? 5 years away? My son was taught about sex the same time he was taught about his body and all it's functions....long before this art show.

I don't understand the whole concept about proper time and age.

I think if a kid is old enough to notice what's on their body they're old enough to be taught about it.

But he wasn't bothered by anything sexual - din't even really notice them...he was afraid of this one picture that was scribbles with little faces in them. He thought it was scary.

Well, he asked me about his body and of course he eventually got to his genitals.

And called it his wee wee, right?

Seriously, that's ridiculous. I mean, we talked about what our bodies do...but I didn't go into detail about sex for fun. But he did ask me, "Does it hurt when the sperm comes out?" I just said, "No" and that was it.
