The Fame Game

Do U know anyone famous? Ok, again, I'll go 1st...back in 1984, I used to hang out and go clubbing with Linda Perry. She was my friend Ernie's prom date in 1986 too. Very cool, funny, and talented woman. Also, the lead singer Sonny, and drummer Wuvy from P.O.D, grew up directly across the street from me. They actually filmed their video to "Southtown" from my front yard! They had our street blocked off, and had a stage built right in the middle of the street in front of their house. Their "people" paid my Dad $50.00 for for the inconvenience. A few years later when their song "Alive" made it big, they came back to the hood to visit their Grandma who lived next door, and I saw them outside, and waved "Hello" but they just gave me stuck up look! Fame can change people! Linda Perry on the other hand is still in touch with me, but through Facebook.

Yes.

My personal belief about notoriety is that it's to be avoided at all costs.

I used to know quite a few people who were very famous in the political realm. (You know the saying - "Politics is show business for ugly people." lol )

Now, there are a couple degrees of separation between me and anyone who is famous, currently.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I worked with 9th Wonder (hip hop producer). When I see him at mutual events we hug, chat, catch up. He tells me to call him, I do, he never answers, or never returns the calls.

He has a project out now with David Banner. He's always down for the cause though. And the circuit that I work with still utilizes his talent and network. So I guess I still know him, and he never throws me shade when I see him. He's just full of it when it comes to his phone. smile

Yes.

shrug

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Shit, I been on a 9th Wonder kick lately! I was actually listening to On the Way, by Little Brother when I read this (it's still playing).

Pandora Radio introduced me to a lot of his stuff. He's one of my favorite producers.
