Well what else did Abraham Lincoln build with logs? It's art imitating life.

Was Lincoln a carpenter? Like Jesus?

Just like that minus the vintner skills.

Well when I was like, five or six they seemed really cool. My six year old nephew loves them. He'll stop playing Wii when I ask him if he wants to build something with "the logs".

They were good for making bases for GI Joes.

I never had a GI Joe, or hardly anything military based. Just some plastic green army men. My nephew is addicted to Hot Wheels and he builds things to "drive" his cars under, on and over with "the logs".

Abraham's wife was a seamstress. So he stayed dressed in all the the trendiest 1850's attire.

So, like we were saying...fashion...

I didn't think the thread was about clothes, just shopping. shrug I can't stop myself from buying a new Star Trek book, anything by Neil Gaiman, or any release on Rephlex Records. I am physically unable. Just can't do it.

Eh, just wait a little while. You'll find 'em for a better price. That always works for me when I want something that's hard to get/find/too expensive, but I think I'm lucky in that regard.

It really, REALLY depends on what it is. If it's something that's just "hot" at the moment the price almost always drops back down (equalizes) after the initial hard core "I must have this now" demand has been met. Those glasses probably won't drop back down to $20, but I don't believe they'll stay at those extremely high prices, either.

If it's an item that has more to do with an appraisable market value regardless of demand - like art, wine, all kinds of antiques, etc. - those tend to stay more steady, but still fluctuate a lot depending on what's most in demand at any given time. Only gold seems to have a permanent high value (thus far).

But like I said, it's a theory that just seems to work for me. If I'm patient and diligent I can almost always find something I want SOMEPLACE online for a price I'm willing to pay.

He's not altogether wrong. Stores that have racks of cheap sunglasses often have a lot of knock-offs. Sometimes they're even pretty well made. I know this because I refuse to buy expensive sunglasses anymore (I'll just break 'em or lose 'em anyway).

I see what you're saying but seeing as these are limited editions and will not be in production again...I'm shit outta luck.

Well what are you willing to pay for them? Be patient and keep an eye out. You know that a lot of people buy things just to resell them these days. Like I said above, eventually all the hard core buyers will run out. When that happens the people who purchased them to make a profit will more than likely have to lower their price to a more reasonable number (depending on wat reasonable is for you, I guess lol ). ... that's my theory, anyway.

I'm the opposite. I buy expensive because I am forced to then take care of them and never lose or break them.

Dollar store glasses don't look like these though...JLo knock offs maybe...but not Lanvin. lol

I got really into Varnet sunglasses for a while. I think I spent about $1000 over a year to a year and a half. Then one day I saw a pair on a $5 rack that looked exactly the same and I decided right then and there to never buy another pair of expensive sunglasses.

Erin, you are a bad ass "de riguer" fashion bitch and I love you. But that coat is very 1998-repeating 1991 shag (that clearly comes from the 60's) and that's too many recycles in such a short period.

As your resident retired stylist I VETO this purchase. The fur collar you got a few months ago was a wonderful update on this look; fur vests are still workable (even though they're about a season behind the major fashion capitals)..buy this at your own risk, but wear once, for a specifically trendy occasion, and whatever you do, don't pair it with the leopard print maxi-dress you boughta whle ago. By the way, these f**kers also matte like crazy so you have to watch after it like you're caring for a shaggy dog.

I definitely get a buzz from shopping. It's not a constant addiction for me though - I go through phases.

I've had good excuses to shop lately. I needed to get new winter things for me and both of my kids seem to have had a growth spurt, so i've had to get them new clothes. Plus all the christmas shopping i've had to do...

Last week I saw some cushions that I really liked but they didn't match the room I wanted them for so I had to buy a new rug and a few other bits to make it work. I've actually brought loads of stuff for the house recently, but we really needed it. ...well most of it.

I just love them!

I even have a "shoe room" in my house...

I do wear all of them, though. I just don't repeat them often. biggrin

Erin, I think most of the guys and some of the girls here think the point of posting in your threads is to get you out of your clothes.

So, mission accomplished, sort of.

This coat is from the Zara 2010 winter campaign, but even if it was vintage (end yes, I even consider 90s vintage now)...I'd buy it. I'm not so much into trends because they are trends, I just know what I like.

This jacket would look hot with the black leather/jersey leggings I just bought, my PLV boots, a black oversize blouse or turtleneck and my recently purchased vintage black floppy wool hat. It's very 70s and I'm starting to really like that look.

I didn't go see it today...but going tomorrow for sure. But it might just make me look like a linebacker, so it might not work at all.
