New Disney film "Tangled"

The last Disney film I saw was the epic box office bomb "treasure planet" released. New film not released in the Uk 'till January, just wondering if anyone has seen it?

It was bullish when Disney put said bomb "Treasure Planet" up against "Harry Potter" when it was first released. Seems Disney are doing exactly this again LOL.

The movies been in the works for nearly a decade according to some reports. Looks more "Shrek" then anything (not surprising), with a fiesty Princess for the modern age (like Ariel was way back in 1989) and a dumb, funny hunk to lure boys into thinking this ain't a little girls film. (the films title was changed from "Rapunzel" to "Tangled" for similar reasons- sacrilege to fairy tale enthusiasts LOL).

Animation looks great, so theres that at least. When Disney tries too hard to be contemporary and funny, it often fails. It's always been better at being sincere (if cheesy), something that "Shrek" could never get right.

Hard to predict if it will be a smash Disney reallly wants it to be, as their last movie "Princess and the frog" was a success, but not as big as one as they had hoped.

This and the upcoming "Tron Legacy" are big films to gamble on....

My son saw it last night with my mother. They both said it was the best movie they saw this year.

That's cool. How old is your son if you don't mind me asking LOL. I saw "The Little Mermaid" (my very first cinema experience) when I was about 4 or 5 and loved it, despite it being labelled a "girly" film by kids at the time LOL. Disney's so called "Princess" movies have alot to live upto. "Sleeping beauty" "Little Mermaid" "Beauty and the beast" "snow white" "aladdin" etc..., be cool if this could at least come close to those films. Though personally I still think Disney's "cinderella" is really average, despite it's vast popularity in general.

LOL, maybe just seeing your sons enthusiasm during the movie probably made her enjoy it more.

But still my Mum genuinely loves Disney's "beauty and the beast", and hates all animated cartoons in general. So, a good film is a good film no matter what I guess?

No, if it wasn't good, she would say so.

LOL, I can only imagine my Dad sitting through those awful Care bear movies in the cinema with my older sister as a kid LOL. So it seems your Mum picked a good family movie then. Thats cool.

Word is this is the last Princess movie from Disney for a while. They can't get enough girls to see these movies in the theatre, and boys just don't want to see "a girl movie." (yes I know there are boys who watch them, but Disney has the numbers so who am I to argue)

They supposedly geared this movie toward more action oriented scenes to keep up with the Shreks/Transformers/Iron Man/etc. They even dropped the Rapunzel name to open the market up to boys a little bit.

Well, my daughter wants to see it, so I'm taking her.

Still it's nice to know, when our bodies wear out, we can get another
