so they are replacing the roofs of our condo complex and they save our building for last.it's been months of the loud noise. all the 2 bedroom end units(us) have the heaters on the roof. not only did they turn off our heat a week ago but they cut off our roof and it rained since. they started the last few days at 7am and till 10pm. it is so loud and they are banging so much they knocked my perfumes of the shelf. so my mom opens the kitchen cabinets earlier and the shelves are breaking and buckling. nearly all our china just crashed and broke..she took it all out slow and luckly nuthin broke. if i just opened a cabinet fast we'd have lost all our glassware and china. it sounds like the sky is falling. you can hear them talking thru the vents. smell the tar and stuff. i feel like a recluse living in my room with a tiny space heater aimed at me only leaving for snacks and to pee. THIS SUX. i think i'll go to my dads for a few days. hope they are done by thanksgiving!

I feel your pain.

Nearly the same thing happened to me years ago. The apartment complex I was living indecided to convert all their flat roofs to pitched roofs. I lived on the top floor. One day in July (I was at home, sicker than a dog with some kind of virus), they ripped off the roof.

Well, it turned out to be the wettest July on record in Madison. It just rained and rained. Eventually the ceiling caved in in my bedroom. None of my stuff was destroyed (I could see the wetness soaking through the ceiling and moved everything as far to one side of the room as possible), but I had to live with dampness and mildew afterward.

I made the best of it, though. Withheld my rent for two months, fought the landlord to be let out of my lease, and moved to a better, newer place.

that sux! every time the mess with the roof we get leaks. once the snow impacted around the heaters and nearly started a fire..the day we moved in there was almost a wall fire with the outlets in the kitchen not grounded right. what a mess. AND THIS WAS THE MANAGERS UPGRADED CONDO
