Less than 24 hours after she was crowned Miss Universe, Mexico's Navarrete has become a top trending topic on Twitter and thousands of fans have flooded her Facebook fan page.
So who is the woman who ousted 82 other competitors for international beauty bragging rights? Here are five things to know about the 22-year-old from Guadalajara.
1. She knows how to handle tough questions After Monday's pageant in Las Vegas, Navarrete was asked her opinion about Arizona's recent immigration law and she strategically answered without alienating either side. "Every country has the right to impose and enact their laws," she said. "But I tell you that all the Mexicans and the Latins that are living here in the United States are hardworking people – people who want to improve on their quality of life."
2. She's been modeling since she was a teen Since the age of 15, the 5-foot-8-inch Navarrete, a self-described nature enthusiast who enjoys boating and motorcycles, has been working in the modeling world with gigs that include working the runway at fashion shows. Most recently she walked at Mexico Fashion Week 2009 for designer Macario Jimenez.
3. She loves her sash. A lot. During her reign as Miss Universe, she hopes to bring attention to people with HIV/AIDS and breast cancer – but she also plans to let "the whole world to know about my country and my people," she said after the competition. Her most prized possession? Her sash because it "has Mexico's name. I'm very proud to be representing my country and it's a big honor for me," she previously said.
4. Also on the agenda: Boosting body image "I studied nutrition and I would like everyone to understand that it is not about your looks it is how you feel inside," the brunette, who is only the second Mexican woman to win the Miss Universe title, said through an interpreter. "And when you feel good inside you look good."
5. She likes sensitive men – and already found hers "The advice that I can give to all the men in the world, it would be to be more sensitive, more lovely or to express in an easy way [what] you're feeling," she said during a pre-pageant interview with the Miss Universe organization. Navarrete seems to have found that in her boyfriend of four years, Pablo Nieto.
99% of them all had the same hair, same smile, pretty much the same warm (but not too dark) skin colour.
In no way does a contest like this show beauty in variety.
Yes, they all look the same.
While I certainly wouldn't mind doing some deliciously nasty things in the bedroom with any of the pageant contestants , I gotta agree with Erin on this; they all did look quite similar, and it felt like I was looking at a bunch of mannequins at times. In fact, it seems that in nearly all of the beauty pageants, the contestants all have the same frame, the same chest to waist to hip proportions, the same hair length, the same hair style, the same plastic-looking smile, the same walk, etc. You never see any contestants with boobs the size of Jessica Simpson or larger, any contestants with hips and a booty like Kim Kardashian or any hip-hop video vixen, any contestants with visible tattoos, any contestants with pixie or punk-style haircuts, or even contestants with naturally curly or wavy hair. (That's not to say that there aren't any contestants with curly or wavy hair, but they always seen to straighten it wire thin for the pageant.) I'd be willing to bet, however, that if even only one pageant contestant came out with any one of those characteristics, she would probably land herself in the final five just simply by standing out from the competition.

I was hoping that the Ukraine girl would win, also was rooting for Jamaica. I knew the Phillipines girl was going to lose after she gave that ridiculous non answer to the question.

Let's look at the winners from the last 10 years. Can you guess the country each one is from?
Everyone one of them is absolutely gorgeous, no doubt...but they basically have the same look. It's like every single country puts up the closest women they have to represent this type of woman. So it's hardly a representation of each country's beauty. It's a homogenized version year after year.

would you expect any different from a beauty pageant run by Donald Trump?
They wear a friggin sash, tiara, and bikini!! This is not the U.N.
Purely an arm-candy competition for guys like Trump who married one of them.

Oh course I wouldn't.
But if you watch the little movie, they talk about it being a like a "little UN" and how "each girl is really so different".
