The alternate ending is on youtube, the camera stays looking across the street at the restaurant after Meadow has gone inside and you hear gunshots.

The greatest tv ever imo, the first 4 seasons especially. I love the Pine Barrens episode where Paulie & Chris get lost, and even Tony's dream one.

The alternate ending is something they chose not to use, so I'm going to ignore it, forever! lol I love the ending they chose because it allows me to believe the family went on living as they were, with Tony having safely pulled through everything falling apart around him. For me, that makes the last couple seasons of the show better. So that's what I'm sticking with.

It doesn't if you watch it closely I'm afraid...the only difference between the alternative (which I haven't seen) and the actual is that this one isn't so in your face. Sadly Tony can't escape his past and he winds up dead

As for The Wire...season 1 & 2 were good (1 particularly) after that it got boring and I gave up...same with 6 feet under

Watch it again and it shows a very big hint as to who rid it and also the pattern in high yo see things...the shots go along the route of look at Tony -hear bell - see what agony sees

Now remember his conversation with Bobby about getting whacked where they agree you never know what hit you...it just goes black and silent. All throughout that last scene we see what Tony sees as family etc come through door until we should see Meadow comin through from Tonys view...but just black and silence

Really? Because that's not the ending I saw. *shrug*

But who is left to kill him? All his enemies are taken care of, right? I think you could interpret the ending as his life continuing like before, never at peace, always in danger, but not neccessarily killed. I don't know, I just know that it was absolutely brilliant. The way they arranged the scene, all the guys looking at him and then... cut.

His actions have echoed on more than just the people he's killed. The person who you think could be the potential shooter is wearing a Members Only Jacket... The sane as the guy who hung himself cuz he wasn't allowed out, the wife of whom said they could get Tony whacked by somebody from out of town...the same couple who feature heavily in a scene where Seven Souls is playing...which describes the stages if death/souls leaving the body until blackness. That whole last season explIns the last acne...and it was apparently written that way. It ven implies Paulie eventually dies too...but only implies

lol You're trying WAY too hard. The ending they chose leaves it open to interpretation. David Chase has said as much several time. He's also said he finds it "disgusting" that people who cheered Tony on for so long would suddenly be wishing for his death. Lastly, as has been pointed out, Tony has no enemies that want him dead at that point. I respect that you want to see it a different way, but as I've already stated, I don't and I never will.

FIRST OFF - sorry this is so long and, I'm on an iPhone so please forgive the errors..auto spell check and this new forum setup means um typing virtually blind

What he said was that he found it disgusting that people wanted to SEE a bloody end to Tony. I caught the Sopranos after everybody else too and at first I thought it was open ended but David Chase said all the clues about Tonys ultimate end are in that final season and final scene and the mire I watch it (particularly 1st and last episode) the more final it becomes.

All the talk about a bullet in the back of the head and seeing nothing but blackness...and then they go to all the trouble of creating a very repetitive series if events...shot of Tony -hear the door bell- Tonys P.O.V for a number of seconds...it does this several times until all the family and customers are in and we should see Meadow come through but all we see is blackness and silence. The customers all represent bits of Tonys past and are seeds of who is still left to hold a grudge drug dealers, guys he could frame during his trial....even the Cat is suspected of being somebodys past comng back to haunt them (Adriana) The whole episode goes to great lengths to show that his awareness of things behind him or over his shoukder is impaired (the warehouse meeting, The old folks home)particularly on the side that the bathroom is illustrating that he's vunerable to the guy who goes to the toilet.

So many things - the Seven Souls song pinpoints Meadow as his guardian...but she wasn't there to save him. There's a reason they put the suspicious guy in that jacket, there's a reason this images are shown during the Seven Souls song. The woman I'm implying had a jand in his death as tenge gmfir husband not only says they could hire somebody from out of town to whack Tony the song also says this when she is on screen:
" Second soul, and second one off the sinking ship, is Sekem: Energy, Power, Light. The Director gives the orders, Sekem presses the right buttons"

and there's a reason that, the moment Tony gets happy and let's his guard down I
Itall folds...just like he said it would, just like his coma said it would when he didn't take the chance to get out.

Listen, it's just a programme and if you think Tonys alive and doing time, safe and sound then that's what you take out if it. I think he's paid the ultimate price and , as Dont Stop Believing suggests in that episode...the movie DOESN'T ho on and on.

There's so many interesting theories in the Net too.

Sorry again this us so long - I love the show sonmuch and it's great to find somebody freshet talk about it with

Being of Italian descent, I kinda felt short changed by this amazing show.

Over in the States, if you have Italian heritage you get to be a mobster, have sex with lots of women, strippers etc. Be exceptionally rich, tell people to fuck off, hit them if they annoy you, kill them if they really annoy you, live in a huge house.

fuck, you've got the alternative career of getting fake tanned up and going on Jersey Shore.

My grandad never came to Scotland and joined a secret criminal organisation. No.

He opened a chippie. Cause thats what you do here if yer Italian. that or an ice cream van.

So in short - Italian American - cool, glamorous and hard. Scots-Italian - smell of grease, no so glamorous, and not hard.

The ending seems ambiguous, but really it isn't. The whole programme was like a pessimists nightmare of modern life, where everything goes wrong. Tony had to get whacked in the end. You do get the satisfaction that Paulie will go on being Paulie.

This is a great article on the ending, like a fucking masters' thesis on it. Read it, you'll be sold Cerebus.

AJ really got on my nerves in the final season, surely the most annoying character in the show.

It wasn't really alternate, slightly extended I should've said. Apparently they filmed a bunch of endings and the one Chase chose to go with was the most ambiguous.
