Hmmmm............and you think that's acceptable? Why react violently? Why not stand your ground with your mouth?

If someone shouts a racial obscenity at you, i don't think the human mind in the

...and some would fight over less...one thing is true tho, if you feel so strongly about the things you say then you should be willing to accept any consequence for those words...non-violent or otherwise...not that I condone throwing ass whoopings around but, as you said, people differ...some speak thru words, others thru actions...

I made a poor judgement once.

This poor unfortunate soul from another board(who's talented at tracking down personal information) thought he could scare me when he PMed me my info and said that he'll come to my house and "kick my ass" when I exposed him in an internet dispute.

He never saw my picture(but I saw his, in his avatar), and I recognised him as a record store clerk in The Bronx.

I printed his PM and went there after a personal errand. I put the printed page on the table and let him read it, after that he stared dead at me in the eye without so much of a BREATH, cold as a fridge lol I told his ass to own up to his words right now since there are no customers around, but all I got was a couple of pitiful blinks and I swear had I raised my hand, he would've died from a heart attack.

Needless to say, I haven't done or said anything to him, I just left. Looking back, I realize that its a foolish thing and I regret doing it. But when he tracked down my personal information(phone, address and the whole works) it was WAR! I'm a mother, I'm never reactive when it comes to my family's well being, I'm always proactive. And he made a habit of tracking down personal infos of other posters and PMing it to them, some stop posting, others continue posting but won't contradict his opinions no matter how OFF THE WALL they were.

The moral of the story is, those people are not bullies, they were the bullied ones in real life and this keyboard is the only thing they're capable of venting their frustration through, because when you do FINALLY meet them, you'll find that timid ass mice are blessed with louder personalities.

He never bothered me after that.

There're TONS of them here in orgville lol it ain't hard to spot any of them. But have no fear, they're the personified versions of James Brown's "Talking loud and saying nothing".

You're lucky because you could have been putting yourself in a dangerous situation by going and confronting him. Some of these people on the internet can be very dangerous and violent, especially a person crazy enough to take the time and effort to track down your personal information to throw up in your face.

I would have probably printed the email and took it to the police, especially since the two of you were in the same city and you knew where he worked. But then again, I don't know if they would have done anything.

As opposed to real life bullying that kids have to face with at school on a daily basis, you can usually get away from it by not responding to those messages. Switching the computer off and not visiting the site for a few days usually helps controlling your own urges to continue as the other half of a dispute.

I seem to have ended up in arguments at the .org about 1-3 times a year. It's just the easiest for me to not come to the site for a few days so I don't even feel motivated anymore to continue them myself. A no nonsense solution, if you ask me.

I'm all for speaking your mind to the very end regardless if anyone else agrees with you or not. Lord knows, I've done that many times myself. But I be damned if I'm going to go digging around and researching trying to find out the other person's identity and address that doesn't agree with me. That's just crazy.

If an arguement goes on and on and the other person never agrees, I just bask in the satisfaction of knowing that I'm right because I'm Andy and they're not. evillol

The fact that you have a right to say whatever stupid/offensive/slanderous thing pops into your head about someone else does not negate their right to exact retribution for same. shrug

That's because they are all local and personally know the person they are fighting with on the internet. Also, teens are stupid thinking they are big shit beating someone's ass over even the smallest little comment. They think that shit makes them look big in front of their classmates. That was going on long before the internet. Teens are just as stupid as they've always been.

With the internet though, they can film their little silly pranks and show them on youtube to prove that they actually did it rather than just telling their friends who may not believe them. I remember I was watching the "Today" show a few years ago and they showed a youtube video that these little bastards had posted. They had gone to a Taco Bell drive through window and ordered the largest Coke they had. When they got the drink at the window, they turned around and threw the drink in the cashier's face and drove off laughing. Now, that's grounds for an ass beating. lol

There was a recent story(in Florida, I think) about some dumbass who beat a girl into a coma because she talked shit about his deceased brother online. Real tough guy. There were some who even supported what he did - fucking morons.
