I find it funny and a little hypocritical that so many folks say that they could care less about celebs marriages. Yet the boards are THICK with discussion about Prince's relationships, potential women, and failed marriages etc.

The real deal is that people only care about the relationships of those that they admire and respect.

Trust me, if a reliable source posted an eyewitness account of what is going on in Prince and Bria's relationship....all eyes would be on that thread. Matter of fact the damned forum might explode from excessive trafficking. eek

I wasn't even talking about celebrities marriages, I was talking about marriage, in general, being pointless. And as for Prince, dude is 52 years old, his non-existent sex life and pimp daddy macking is not my concern...at least not anymore. AND BTW, you do realize this is a Prince fansite right? lol lol lol

lol You do realize that divorce favors women, especially if children are involved, than men right?

But in all seriousness, marriage is becoming a for the last couple of years. No one wants to try to work things out when things turn bad. lol lol lol lol

Bull.SHIT.

I lost the shirt off my fucking back in my divorce confused, and while we didn't have children, I have personal examples of a many a divorcee who, children notwithstanding, got screwed over big time once their marriages became irreparable. Your take on this only accurate in some cases at best and clearly from limited experience and (international) perspective.

sad Ott...how could anyone bare to be parted from you? hug

Speak for yourself.

I'm quite fond of Our Hero, but I still don't give a shit who he is or isn't boning unless it has some direct influence on his work. If he's going to pen a song or album about someone, it's nice to know that person's name.

Reading through this thread, I felt similar to Reels. We just recently had threads with views in the thousands and posts in the hundreds about Sandra Bullock's and Tiger's marriages. Before that there was a discussion about Mo'nique's marriage a while back. Stepping on toes here, I am pretty sure some of the folks not giving a damn right now participated more than just a single reply or so back then.

But none of us care about celebrity marriages. Nope not one bit.

I will stick to what I have said. I cannot speak for anyone but myself but I do not give a damn about celebrities in general and their marriages even less than that. My comments in any celebrity thread are usually in defense of someone in a purely human aspect only. You will NOT find me commenting on Prince's relationships period.

I am too caught in real life to give a damn about some person who doesn't give a damn about me.

No I am all about calling people on their BS but I am not a fan of sweeping generalizations like Reel made. I also know that meow doesn't generally speak to the celeb threads either.

More marriages fail than succeed, in general.

Add to that that celebs may have more temptation, more money, and they are often treated as if they are gods, which probably makes them more narcisisstic & unwilling to make the compromises necessary for marriage.

Lol............it is not that serious. These discussions are 4 entertainment purposes mostly.

I think Vendetta has a very valid point and real life getting in the way of celeb nonsense.

Celebs has a completely different sense of themselves than folks with no loot or noteriety. At the end of the day though, they are just people sometimes with an over inflated sense of self.

It would be a lie to say I'd never commented on one of those threads (or participated in that kind of discussion IRL) but generally I try to stay away from them, yeah. For the most part, I just don't care.

We don't know these people, we know their personae. That's quite a big difference.

We have a secret love affair with celebrity downfalls. We think celebrities don't work for a living like us and we are glad they are being punished for it.

What's funny or rather odd is that no matter how high the divorce rate....celebs and non-celebs still walk down that aisle in high numbers. It's like people who drink or smoke. You know your odds of getting some disease and cutting your life span down by a few years are pretty high yet you still gulp and puff. Maybe marriage is addictive? lol It's like a drug and people are constantly in and out of rehab aka county clerk's office/divorce court.

I agree (and I'm not married)

I think celebs are impulsive; they do stuff and make mistakes. So do the rest of us, but I think celebs are more extroverted and less likely to be as careful about their actions.

I don't think it's impulsivity or extrovertedness that's causing it.

What I think is happening is that, in spite of the high divorce rate, our culture still holds marriage in high regard and esteem. There's a lot of tradition and emotion wrapped in the idea of marriage in our culture, so people still get married in droves even though they know there's a high chance of failure.

As for the divorce rate itself, I don't believe that it's come about because of a loss of values or patience or whatever scapegoat cause. Personally, I see it as fewer people being willing to put up with crap they shouldn't have to and simply cutting their losses when the relationship goes south. We love to romanticize those long-lasting marriages of yesteryear, but if we're to be honest we know many of those old couples only stayed together because it was the thing to do. Just take a look at how many old marrieds loathe each other but are still together after 50 years. lol
