Not to start anything...but I have to ask everyone who is against this. How do you feel about cheerleader/Pom groups? They also do moves like this...think about football games, basketball etc...

I will agree that some of those moves, are wrong for girls of their age. But on a different note, some of those moves were awesome and show what great dancers they all are. It is sad that some dance groups go to the level of sex to win.

all that shit is unacceptable...our high school cheerleaders have questionable routines and often dress inappropriately...and there's a level of tolerence for it that I can't comprehend...it's a problem with a couple of the local dance studios, too...

had those girls in the video been dressed more age appropriate, then the routine wouldn't have been overly scruitinized...it's one of those cases where what you're presenting is greatly affected by and often overshadowed by how you present it...

Hmm, I don't know if I could compare but nowadays cheerleaders aren't doing anything different from what the girls in the video did.

7,8,9,10 year olds (or however old they are) don't need to be liftin their leg to say HAYYY DAD! with their coochies or gyrating (scantily clad or otherwise, let's face it gyrating is sexual regardless of clothing or lack thereof) to a song that clearly speaks of grown ass women.

Not at a dance recital, not at a basketball game and not at the baby jesus christmas pageant nativity. I just don't see where it's appropriate period.

Speaking of cheerleaders and such. I was surprised a few weeks ago to see local highscool kids parading CAR WASH signs (fundraiser) in 2 piece bathing suits and the dudes shirtless (one in a speedo) at a nearby traffic intersection.

Far be it from me to be a prude (hello, me, prude??? lol) but isn't that kind of hypocritical? If folk are gonna point the finger at the dude that makes a comment or is turned on by the underage girl/boy, why are you selling the fundraiser half nekkid?confused They were in traffic and this is not a beach town. Come on now.lol

Cuz I'm sayin...I'm human and some of those kids looked a bit...um...developed.
I happen to know better but you can't be blurring that line but then point the finger completely the other way.

sigh I know. It seems to be a fairly common thing. I don't know why folk think it's ok or worse yet...cute.
I watch this video and all I can think is, sure the girls might think it's harmless mimicking of what they see on tv and don't (maybe) quite fully "get", but come on...the dance teachers, coaches, audience and PARENTS....WTF??? They are all grown ass folk. They know how they react when they see this on tv. Daddies know they get a funny feelin down there when they watchin Beyonce gettin down and shit. How are you then gonna let your child go up on a stage in a 2 piece and do the same damn thing??? hmph!

The only thing inappropriate was the outfits. What was the point of having their stomachs and shit hangin out? Unnecessary. If they had on different attire no one would have said anything. That aside, yal can't tell me they don't go harddddd.

The dancing actually bothered me more than the outfits. I guess I've become used to seeing those types of outfits on little girls (yes, I admit to watching that horrid Toddlers & Tiaras show from time to time disbelief ) and you see that kind of thing all the time in those awful pageants and competitions.

The dancing on the other hand... confused My mouth dropped open when they all went into a deep squat and starting grinding their hips around in circles. eek disbelief We're all used to seeing that in videos with adults (well, mostly adults anyway), so much so that it's become commonplace, and the whole point of that type of dancing anyway is to come off as being sexy and desirable, but in 7 and 8 year old girls? confused ugh no.

lol We used to do this! I was on the danceline as a teenager and they used to hold "Bikini Car Washes" to raise money. Seriously, a bunch of 16 and 17 year olds in bikinis washing cars in the 80's. lol disbelief

Of course I never participated, not in a bikini at least, I was always fully-clothed. lol Too shy and insecure.

That said, there's a HUGE difference between teenagers being sexualized and 7 year old girls. confused

I think it is okay. It is not all that bad. I would not go to a show like that nor would I like a child of mine take part in that and the child beauty crazies freak me out, but I so not see that as being so over the top to be worthy of the attention it is getting.

I can see this from both sides... I thought their skill level was pretty good, but I was uncomfortable with a couple of parts of that routine..

I took ballet and 'modern jazz' for 6 yrs as a little girl (back in the mid '80s, nobody would have taught us moves like that) --- but this isn't the same as dance class recitals; this is at the competition level.... it is somewhat different.
~ HOWEVER, I'm sure there were other complex routines their choreographer could have come up with to showcase their skills (and not such grown-up costumes).... It's not really about them being [intentionally] sexual, but unfortunately in this day and age, there are too many perverts out there who will see that and be turned on by it, maybe act b/c of it... (?) Sadly, you just always have to keep that in mind now...
~ as PP9 would say, "Remember the children..."
wink

As for Arianna -- I saw that one when it first came out; she was only 3 yrs old, it was just.. cute.. lol
the belly dancing... saw this one, too, a while back.. I think it's only a 'problem' here b/c Americans put so much emphasis on this dance form as being sexual/sensual all the time; from what I hear, it's not always a sexual thing in other countries/wherever it originated.. *shrug*
