I want to get healthier. Tips?

I'm a healthy size and proportion for my body type, so this is not about losing weight. I'm content with my overall shape, thank you. smile

But I would like to get in better shape and take better care of myself. I'm not overweight, but several members of my family are so I know the potential is there.

My eating habits are not, admittedly, the best. (I just polished off a bag of peanut M&M's, if that's any indication as to how I feed myself lol ) Big bags of chocolatey goodness aside, I don't really consume much sugar and I only rarely eat meat, so i guess that's something.

The big sticking point for me is exercise. I'm asthmatic so running or jogging is just plain out. Cardio's not worth the trip to emergency. A lot of my friends have suggested yoga or pilates but frankly, they don't interest me.

Ideas?

A body can never drink too much wine.

So Cardio's out as is Yoga or Pilates...

what about Tai-Chi or Karate some of the Eastern styles might be both interesting and useful...

even something out of the norm like Kendo (release your inner Jedi...)

biggrin

Eat cacao nibs - lots of energy, makes you feel good, with none of the fatty milk and sugar. smile

I also eat a handful of goji berries every day, plus take spirulina and wheatgrass tabs.

Oh, and tea. Lots of different teas. smile

These help me feel healthy and 'well'. Now if only I could stop drinking. lol

just walk. treadmill if you like TV, park if you like outdoors.

you can run/jog with asthma....I used to have asthma and my gym teacher made me run around the gym for an hour (torturous bitch!) and I survived (well I could breathe....the double charley horses I got were no joke though, and the bitch was like if you stop at all you fail! hmph! disbelief eek confused sad neutral faint ). Just take a good toke off your inhaler and you should be good to go! In fact I used to always be running because I had serious CP time issues, run to the subway, run to the bus, run across campus....maybe that's why I don't have asthma no mo' wink

Nothing beats a solid weight-training program combined with swimming, and some cardio boxing classes.

hmmm

About 5 years ago I worked in a kitchen at a restaurant. Anyone who's ever been in one knows they're designed to the proportions of rather large men. I am rather small. By the end of my time there all the heavy lifting and climbing on equipment to reach things redface left me with some pretty bad-ass Madonna muscles.

I used to have a gym teacher who tried to make me do laps around the track. A visit from the paramedics later and I was suddenly excused to do Phys Ed in the library. lol

Best way to get tight and toned, imo. I always encourage women to hit the iron and get stronger. It'll help as you grow older.
