If I couldn't reach it through the window from inside the car then I'd get out of the car to retrieve it too - but I'd take my keys with me. Doesn't matter who is or isn't in the car - if I'm not, then nor are my keys. Seems like perfectly logical and responsible car ownership to me.

passing around a hoax police message is not passing advice to friends, it's spamming, and you are doing just what the message creators want, stupid shit passed around email/facebook/forums etc, creating unnecessary worry and wasting peoples time
Thank you. thumbs up! Somebody gets it.

not everyone would take their keys with them

Can we just agree to disagree. We think it is a good idea if our pals know about it. U don't cause it's spam. Fine. And since when is Wikipedia a good or reliable source. They tell us at uni/college not to use it as people can update and change anything they want and add bull.

it is necessary cause aussie orgers have had things like this happening thus it is muy importante, ok?

so as this is neither urgent, nor from the police, don't you think you should change the thread title, and let the people you've spammed know that you made a mistake and you sent them a hoax message by mistake, so they don't fall for the hoax and spam it about some more?

made a mistake about what? I choose to tell people about it and I did and I'm Molto Contenta that I did. Did you not read that stuff like this has happened so it is good advice or do you just want to see that?

made a mistake about it being from the police, true, or urgent, and spammed a hoax email about the place, such as in here with a thread title "'Australian Orgers, URGENT FROM POLICE- BE CAREFUL!!!'"

if you bothered to read the links i posted you would see that stuff like that didn't happen either

I one found a drunk on my rear car window. I was going to call the cops or just drive off with them laying there and let him just roll off, but then the cops showed up! Which was lucky for me as I was the drunk...

How is warning people not to be as dumb as pig shit a good safety tip?

It's spam, doesn't matter where it originates or where it's targeted, it's still spam. Either you're intelligent enough to be vigilant and protect what is yours, or you're not.

No amount of spam thinly veiled as a warning is going to make a thick motherfucker any less thick.

how can it be spam, if its friends passing on advice to friends...not everyone in their mail box!!!

ive actually been in a car with someone who has driven off, then noticed something under their windscreen wiper...(it was advertising), they got out to remove it...and left the car running as i was still in it...this could easily happen in areas where jacking is rife...and no area is immune to bad ppl.

A friendly reminder never hurts...just like making sure you empty your mailbox when on holidays etc.

Wouldn't it better to simply avoid such areas?
Maybe circulate a spam about which areas are bad?
I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

The problem is that it hasn't happened ANYWHERE. It simply hasn't happened.

It did not happen.
The police have not issued an urgent warning.

The entire purpose of the e-mail is to dupe people and spread fear. By repeating it, you are actually perpetrating a malicious hoax, much like what the imaginary carjackers would be doing.
Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

can't you just change the thread title, tell the people you spammed you were wrong and try and make amends for your error, like i've been trying to persuade you to do since i pointed out your mistake literally within a few seconds of your original post?

Can't we all just get along?

Can't we just take this as "be aware of your surroundings" and move on?

I much rather read a myth than real reports of something like this, but you know the thing is people do messed up things to other people all the time. If reading this myth makes a person a bit more careful then good!

I agree as well. It's a very good safety tip in areas where car jackings and other crimes are an issue, regardless of how it originated. As long is it's sent selectively as a personal address or blind mail, as opposed to a mass mailing that could open it up to phishers, I think it can be a preventative step that does far more good than it does harm. This is the kind of world we live in today, and I'd rather see friends and loved one play it safe rather than be sorry later.

How is warning people not to be as dumb as pig shit a good safety tip?

yeah shake

I've seen other news stories, one about a 2 year old, that carjacker didn't realise was in back of car until he was already driving. Realising his mistake, he abandoned the vehicle and the child died of heat exhaustion before police found the car, only a few blocks away cry

I agree, maybe not HAPPY

but it's a cautionary tale despite the source being a complete hoax

you never know whose aunt parks their car in the mall only to return find a little old lady in the back seat with man hands (and later inspection reveals an axe behind the driver's seat)
