My point is, specifically for today... 2009.... what specific 'incessant' features of WIndows Explorer make it inferior to Mac Finder?
I never said anything about my experience with Windows in its current incarnation because I don't use Windows anymore (except at work and that's Windows 2000). I've used every Windows through XP and in my experience every new OS saw a slew of unnecessary features added to Explorer. Here's a question for you: exactly what features from Windows Explorer would you like to see implemented in the Finder? So essentially, you're protesting the feature set of the current incarnation of Windows Explorer specially (You're "no no no no no" comment) based on 12 year old experience for an incarnation of the software that no longer has this failing. 
BTW, I don't' use Windows anymore either. I'm a mac guy. I only poke around in Windows to see what they've changed, cause from time to time, I have to support the OS (I'm a software guy by trade). I agree with this guy: http://www.cs.umd.edu/~be...nt-so.html Although I think his alha-arrow key critique is superfluous and over-the-top. Again, I'm a mac guy. I find it hilarious when Windows users complain about macs, and none of them even own Macs, or that they complain about Macs because they owned one back in the 90's. Macs are kickass machines, and I'd be depressed if I had to use only a PC. But when it comes to Windows Explorer and Microsoft Office, I have to give credit where credit is due--they're superior offerings. | |

You keep harping on "12 year old," but my complaint was the piling on of features over multiple incarnations. And XP may be old, but I'd guess it's still the most-used version of Windows right now. I often have files and folders with similar names and they should be sorted together. I'm also fine with Cmd-O, which is the universal shortcut for opening a file. I also hate that view with so many different columns. I always switch Windows Explorer to Details view. I agree with him about focus, though. But when it comes to Windows Explorer and Microsoft Office, I have to give credit where credit is due--they're superior offerings.
Like I said, I prefer the Finder to the Explorers through XP. The rewritten Finder in Snow Leopard does what I need it to do. I confess that, since I use LaunchBar, I don't need it to do much, but I like that it's fast. As for Office, that's another product that gets bloated every time. While Word and Excel have certain power functions that haven't been replaced, I prefer the lightweight speed of Pages and Numbers for most tasks.  I've noticed a peak and valley with Windoze and their OS releases since the 90's. When I say "love" below, I mean that people seemed to like it more than the ones listed as "hate", overall. 95 - Love 98 - Hate 98 SE - Love ME - Hate (but loved the NT 2000 version) XP - Love Vista - Hate 7 - Love That means in about 2 or 3 years, people are gonna be hatin' again. agreed.....I had vista just bought a new laptop 3weeks ago love it..... well other than I keep hitting some button and it makes all my org notes/email disappear. But, I am figuring it all out. | |
