EVERYBODY PLEASE GIVE A SMALL DONATION TO YOUR LOCAL ANIMAL SHELTER NOW!!

So we got our cat, Shai, back after being missing for 5yrs. excited

He has a really ugly cancerous lesion on his ear that would cost close to 2k to operate away. bawl

Our local SPCA heard of his travails and has now DONATED THEIR SERVICES to heal our kitteh! Please support your local shelter in any way possible. dancing jig

If you'd like to support the shelter doing the work...

http://www.eastbayspca.org/donate/

(I'll post pics of him when he's healthy, all I have is really gross pics of his ear right now)

My wife recently raffled a piece of her artwork for the local shelter. She raised a couple hundred smackers.

apparently across the street from where we moved away... we put up flyers, knocked on doors and let the local SPCA know that he was missing back then. He had also been chipped but we never heard from anyone...

FF to 2009!

I'm walking through a shop 2 weeks ago and I get a call from a local Vet who says a neighbor brought in this cat because his ear was all F'ed up. They scan him and lo and behold the chip has my number and they call me...

the cat... is back!!

His name is Shai and he TOTALLY recognized us... that's why we were trying EVERYTHING to get this surgery done (but we're a little bit broke at this moment...)

You can't even imagine how THRILLED we are right now!!!

touched I'm so glad I got my new kitty chipped. I can't donate money right now, but I plan on volunteering at the shelter where I adopted Sugafoot after I graduate next month.

I give used-but-ok dog toys like balls, food that I've gotten as "try-out" stuff, or gear I find at yard sales and the like, that I get for next to nothing but won't use myself. I can't afford to give money but I do what I can.

We always do what we can for local animal organizations. nod
I can't volunteer because I would adopt a dog every week. redface
Maybe if we ever own a large piece of land. I could totally have like 10 dogs. cloud9

What a great story! I used to give to ASPCA faithfully but had to stop....and they kept asking for MORE money! I got annoyed, but I do help when I can.

My problem is the opposite of yours - I have, over the years, become rather indifferential to animals in certain situations in shelters. People hate on me for this, but I can't really see a point in keeping an amputated dog or cat alive, I say spend the money the surgery would cost on an animal with the chance of a full life. But that's a discussion for some other thread, or not.
If you get a large piece of land, you could run a small rescue operation of your own perhaps, or foster for the ASPCA. nod BUT... you'd need your bf/husband (I can't remember if you're married, I'm sorry bawl boxed ) to tell you a stern "NO!" when you want to keep them all. wink
When I win the lottery and get my farm I will foster horses. nod Too few people do that, too.

Oh, Ren - you need to make some great LOL-cat of your cat saying something to the effect that it's never too late to go home - not a LOL-cat as such but a hope-cat for other owners out there to not despair. smile nod

YES! our local animal shelter took care of my dog after he went missing and got hit by a car. Even though I had him put down, I am soo grateful for the good care he had before I arrived and the Vet was so compassionate that he hugged me as I drowned myself in tears.

It was so clean in there and the people were soo nice....i'll never forget it

spit No way! falloff Damn, what a name. In retrospect I should have re-named my current dog "snoozie", but "uzie" is also fine (breeder's name, the litter starting with "u")
