They're usually palm-sized, grey or black, with a round circly-bit on the front.

Most stores have them behind locked glass, so head over to those cabinets first.

is that it? There are tons that do that, it's the extras that start to add the money.

Excellent picture quality is something that a regular camcorder will have more of than the currently poplular Flip and associated "handcams".

Look for one that records directly to flash memory, 1080p.

A friend of mine just recently got one, not HD, but that has the in-built memory (60 GB?). It's a Sony and I love how small it is. One thing though, the picture quality is worse than that of an old second-hand Panasonic another friend and I used to mess around with in the mid-90s. confused

we've had 2 standard def digital camcorders, both Panasonic, the earlier one that we got in 1997 had better picture quality than the next one we got about 4 years ago sad
but both look crap on our telly mad

image stabilization, low light lux, bells and whistles....how much do you want to spend? That's usually the most important factor.

Weird. lol I'm talking tape with the old 90s one though. Seriously, that was a cheap camcorder (before that word, really. Think 'video camera'). May even have been early 90s come to think of it. My friend's new one, on his 40 something inch screen, looked awful.

dunno, maybe a AUS$1K?

CANON HFS200 what about this one? I'd have to get a wide angle conversion kit though sounds like confused

the SIZE of the sensor plays a huge part in quality also. Generally, the more expensive cameras have larger CMOS sensors, which in turn produce much nicer video.

This is in your price range, however for a few dollars more you get better low light performance and a bunch of other cool shit.

lol, it's just that's what I'm familiar with. giggle

Pay attention to the sensors and lenses, they're the most important factors in video quality. And digital zoom sucks ass, don't even bother looking at those numbers...optical zoom is more useable.

not sure what you mean....it will record HD content directly to flash memory...either installed on the camera or a flash based card. I mean use flash memory cameras instead of outdated consumer tape based cameras. smile

I have a KODAK HD VIDEO thingy and it kinda sucks. You might want to stay away from it. It doesn't have that steady function. Everything I record is shaky.

This is what I have.
