my family is from Barbados and I totally need to go one day. I've heard it's gorgeous! I've been to Jamaica and loved it. Ocean is beautiful and so soothing and the people were so friendly

I'm from Brooklyn, so I have a little hustler in my blood....

I have been the to Barbados, but it's been over 10 years. I can tell you that I loved the island. It was a little rundown and I hear it still is, but it's a nice enough island and the people were very nice too. The weather and beaches were beautiful.

My man is from there, I've been 3 times, heading there in a couple months again. Can't wait! I highly recommend it along with Antigua & Barbuda & St. Lucia.

I've been three times--once with my sister and brother, once to get married and once for our 5 year anniversary (2006). Plan to go for the ten year! The Barbados tourism industry is touting the island as the "authentic" Carribean experience. It's very different from some of the other islands--no chain hotels (just a Hilton) and you really are right with the locals. Sometimes I feel the other islands kind of shuttle you away from the real world of the people. Barbados also has the highest literacy rate in the Carribean. We've always thoroughly enjoyed our time there.

Here's a video that does a good job of summing up their tourist philosophy:
