Folks being Kicked off of Planes?!?!

I totally got some dude kicked off a plane yesterday from Chicago.


Let me first explain--if not me, SOMEBODY was going to get this bitch removed.


The dude seemed normal, if a bit 'out of date' in fashion (he reminded me of Don Johnson circa Miami Vice with an early 80's Gay-bar mustache). But I digress, this dude seemed normal at first.

Then the pilot announced that we were going to be 30 minutes late due to an engineering issue. Now, 30 minutes late on a flight were you have to make a connecting flight may be a problem, but everyone on that plane was headed for Bangkok with a kick refueling stop in Tokyo. Nobody was in any danger of missing the flight.

But this motherfucker.... This insane motherfucker started spewing explicitives left and right.

During a breif 3 minute period I heard:

Approximations
"God Damnit." 30 times
"Motherfucker" 30 times
"retarded" 10 times
[allusions to the plane crashing or blowing up] 3 times

When the TSA security team arrived and asked him if everything was ok, he'd
changed his tone to a more 'normal' sounding tone and explained in a normal non-yelling voice "Everything is fine, sir--I was just a bit concerned about what was going on. I'm a senior engineer myself."

The TSA security guy looked over at me and I immediately interjected, "Everything is not alright--this guy is insane. I proceeded to tell the officer the number of times he'd cursed, what they were, and capped it all off with his predictions and threats that the plane was going to crash."

A very nice Japanese couple behind me then said, "Yeah. He go.. We want him gooo!"

And then they proceeded to take the dude off the plane.

What the heck is wrong with people? It boggles the imagination that anyone would be so stupid (Especially a guy obviously in his 40s or 50s).

Yeah, I can't get my head round stuff like this, but people are just wired differently, it seems. I'm so glad I'm not a raving lunatic who at any moment is capable of launching into a manic rage of bluster and expletives.

The conversation was a bit longer than I wrote here.
He originally tried to refute me--he was apparently very nervous once 'caught'--but I looked at the TSA guy and said, "Look, you can hook me up to a lie detector, I don't care. But he needs off this flight."

Originally, my gut instinct was to try and feel compassion for him cause he could have been truly clinically insane. he could have had a problem of some kind.

But when I saw that he was getting nervous, I knew immediately that he was very well aware of what he did. At which point, I was livid.




Bottom line: You have to be an idiot to run into a movie theater and scream "fire fire fire!".

No way I could have stayed on a plane with that nut...I'm nervous enough on planes as it is.

I agree...have been on numerous flights I would have loved to kick some idiot off a plane for the behaviour issues. 99% of the time way to many drinks were involved. Give them a backpack and tell them FLY away

Airline spokesman Robin Urbanski told me in an e-mail Thursday evening that the airline does not have a policy that would prevent a customer from sitting in first class for dressing too casually. Instead, the gate agent apparently thought the customer in a track suit was an airline employee. If that would have been the case, an employee would have been subject to a dress code.

"We are working with our sub-contractor that was helping us with this flight to investigate what happened and ensure something like this does not happen again," Urbanski said in the e-mail. "This was an unfortunate miscommunication with the gate agent who speaks English as a second language and was simultaneously assisting another customer when he believed Mr. Alvarez to be an airline employee in which a dress code policy is required."

ORIGINAL POST (8:35 a.m. ET on Thursday, Nov.5): An executive with Best Buy claims a United Airlines gate agent refused to allow him to take a first-class seat because he was wearing a track suit, reports FOX 5 News of Washington. Armando Alvarez, a corporate executive with electronics retailer Best Buy, says he used miles to upgrade to first class on his Monday flight from Washington Dulles to Connecticut (presumably Hartford).

Alvarez says that once his upgrade cleared, he walked to the counter near the gate to get his new seat assignment. That's when he says the gate agent told him that his track suit was too casual for him to sit in first class. (See a picture and video of the suit on FOX 5’s website).

"I was humiliated," Alvarez is quoted as saying to FOX 5 reporter Will Thomas following the incident. "I was embarrassed and when some of the passengers were boarding behind me they said, 'Hey, what just happened?' And I said the agent just said I wasn't properly dressed to go in first class today. And they said, 'Was he kidding?' I said obviously not because I'm boarding and not getting in first class."

OTHER PASSENGER NEWS: Southwest kicks mom, cranky kid off flight

FOX 5 updates the story with a response from United. On its website, the TV station writes a United "spokesperson says they've identified the gate agent and he is a contract employee who works for Air Wisconsin. The spokesperson says the employee was interviewed and security footage from the terminal is being reviewed as officials for both airlines investigate the incident. United says there is no passenger dress code, but they cited two rules. Ticketed passengers can not be barefoot and must be clothed."
