Efan said: Oh my god, I love her! She's incredible! There's an interview with her in New York magazine this week, and I'm so totally into her now.
Here's the whole thing: http://nymag.com/movies/profiles/59419/ But a few samples that I particularly loved below: “They try to paint the picture that I was this downtrodden, ugly girl who was unpopular in school and in life, and then I got this role and now I’m awesome,” says the actress. “But the truth is that I’ve been awesome, and then I got this role.”
... Ah, yes, her weight. When Sidibe was 11 years old, an aunt offered to pay for a cruise if she lost 50 pounds. Friends and family continue to pressure her about it. “I still hear it from people who don’t know that they’re pretty close to hurting my feelings,” she says, “people who care about me, like this one friend. I was eating a light potato chip, and she eyeballed me like I was the most disgusting thing she’d ever seen. She says, ‘Every time you want to put something disgusting in your mouth, think of the designers who won’t make a dress for you because you’re fat.’ ” But at some point, says Sidibe, “I learned to love myself, because I sleep with myself every night and I wake up with myself every morning, and if I don’t like myself, there’s no reason to even live the life. I love the way I look. I’m fine with it. And if my body changes, I’ll be fine with that.” She sounds great. It's not often to hear of young women of any size that confident in themselves. “Don’t, don’t, don’t! I’m not a regular girl. I just got off a plane from France. You need to check yourself."

Helen Mirren backed out. When you go from Helen Mirren to Mariah, you gotta push for her to at least look busted. The thing is that they're sayin OOH she's allowing herself to look this way like it's a big achievement. Like whomever brings a stack o' pancakes to her in bed each morning hasn't seen this face.

In all fairness to Ms Carey and other actresses who've done movies looking rough, it does take a pair to do it. A lot of performers are, in essence, very insecure about their appearance, especially with the paparazzi ready to tear them a new one anytime they look less than perfect. This is especially true for female performers. A lot of actresses have been known to turn down good roles because they'd be asked to put on weight or go without makeup. That doesn't make the actresses who take busted looking roles heroines. It makes the ones who turn a good part down (when there's so few good parts out there) vain and stupid. Yes there's insecurity in Hollywood, but there's also a lot of vanity.

You're just like all those other vain Hollywood starlets and would not be seen without your face on. I heard Tyra called Mr. Daniels when you turned it down talkin bout "Ooh I got a fat suit and will take my weave off."

Laugh if you want, but for a lot of women their looks are their armour. They lack the confidence to just be, for loads of different reasons. Going out unadorned -or appearing on the big screen in high definition without a stitch of makeup -is a very scary prospect for some people. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

My mother only learned to cope with showing herself without makeup/fancy hair when she could no longer do it for herself due to disability. I don't believe that all Vanity is insecurity. I believe some people really do think they are better or more beautiful than the rest.

BTW, that movie poster is absolutely beautiful. Kudo's to the artist who came up with the design

I never really paid attention to the poster before: Sweet Jesus it's a child fractured into pieces, with clawed hand reaching straight into her womb...this is going to be a tough one to take in...but I'm going to brave it out.

They're doing a screening here tomorrow night as part of the Chicago Film Festival and are expecting Oprah and Tyler Perry to be there. If I had the hundred bucks, I'd go.
Luckily, they are screening it again on Friday here for 15 bucks.
