If it's ok for every other tom Dick or Harry to lie, cheat and steal on their families- or have same sex partners, believe in abortion, do drugs, have love children, etc..

Why does the public demand to know every detail or expect an apology from these celebrities when they go the same route?

because public officials have a sworn duty, and they are in the public eye, under scrutiny, to protect the office that they are involved in. They are expected to behave accordingly, so when they cheat, lie, or steal, they are breaking the oath of the office. that is why they are under heavy scrutiny when they take it upon themselves to act in an immoral way.

Because it covers the fact that all the other politicians who don't get caught having sex or doing drugs are actually doing far more scandalous things with our money, laws, and lives.
