Question for the Org Mothers.....UPDATE: the kid is here!

When you had your kids, how long were you in labour?

I ask because my best friend is in the process of having a baby. She's been in labour since Saturday night. Yeah, a week. I don't envy her.








So, after a week of labour, (Yes, REAL labour ) Junior finally saw fit to make her entrance! I have a niece! (sort of )

12 hours with first child then had to have emergency c-section...second baby, about 14 hours...is she dialating at ALL?

That's not a problem at all. At the last minute the director of the school decided on another candidate.

Has her water broken? If it hasnt I would be up walking around tryimg to get it going...

Well, I have heard of it...I dont think its abnormal but def not the "norm"..Most doctors would give her something like pitocin to move it along unless she is going through a natural labor... I feel bad for her,poor thing! i wonder why they dont break her water for her? both of my children the doctor broke the water to move things along... Big hugs to her!

Hard for me to say how long I was in labor. I got to the hospital and within a half hour I was delivering, the doctor barely got there on time


But a week seems so long! your poor friend

You can't be in labor for a week


Just because the mucus plug has passed doesn't mean she's in labor. That usually happens a week or so before....usually. Until she starts to have consistent contractions, she is NOT in labor. My water broke at 10am, but I still had to be induced, and that wasn't until 8pm...then I started to have contractions. My son was born at 5am.

With my first child I was technically in labor 2 days before I went to the hospital (but I didnt really feel much..thought it was a bad UTI)...then I was induced and in hard labor for 9 hours before the emergency c-section.

With my second child, I was scheduled for a c-section and never had any labor.

is she in ACTIVE labour though? they won't start counting it as real labour until contractions are 10 mins apart or less and she can't actually talk during one.
I had my first contraction (with first kid) 27 hours before he came out, but the official length of that labour was 22 hours. It was obstructed and I had to have a c-section

By third kid, the time between first and last contraction was about 2 hours

According to her, she was told it's active labour but the contractions have been varying a lot all week, so I dunno....

Actually the mother can be without realizing it(very light contractions, not felt or noticed by the mother but only by a machine monitor), Im also in tthe medical feild.Even if she is dialated 1 1/2 she can still have contractions and not dialate. I even had trouble dialating I stayed 1 -1 1/2 cm dialated for a week until the doctor put me in to be induced and that is when he softened my cervix with a medication. One of my close friends was in labour for a week as well, She wasnt even feeling the contractions and was OVERDUE by 2 weeks of due date. She had to have a c-section casue her baby was too big. He weighed in at 10lbs. 13 oz. BIG baby So did my baby sister she even had a 10 pound baby by c-section( her body aka plevis area was too small to deliver naturally)

These contractions are called braxton hicks contractions and majority of the women DONT feel them

I hope she is doing ok honestly. I hope she gets the good drugs if she is in pain lol. I wish I could of had painkillers but they said it would of slowed the process down cause of some medical issue with my daughter and me being a high risk pregnancy.

Yeah, yeah, Braxton-Hicks. We all know them These aren't REAL contractions. I had them from 4 months of pregnancy til the end Those don't mean you're in labor. I am also in the medical field

No doctor would allow a woman who is having REAL contractions to walk around for a week. Contractions put stress on the baby.

Of course, you can have contractions and not dialate. Many women have this issue. Still, it depends on the severity of the contraction before it is considered "Labor", which is why many women have false alarms.
