WHAT IS THIS COUGAR BULLSHIT??

Alright so another example of inequity between the sexes and total disrespect to the female sex is this label of Cougar. So basicall a cougar is an older woman who dates a younger man. Hold up! Why does she have to be a cougar?

Cougar:
A capable stalk-and-ambush predator, the cougar pursues a wide variety of prey.
It is the second heaviest cat in the American continents
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cougar

I'm sorry but that is some royal bullshit right there. Why does a woman have to be labeled a predator where as a man gets no label at all. As a matter of fact, hollywood and perhaps society in general seems to find it acceptable for older men to date younger women, even buying them but an older woman is looked at as some near dead bitch on the prowl even when the guy pursues her. I was watching some showbiz entertainment program and they listed the following celeb women as cougars:

Jennifer Aniston - I'm sorry but 10 years between a couple who are both in the 30-40 age range does not qualify IMO.

Mira Sorvino - Okay but her guy chased her and then they married, plus they have 3 kids. Aren't cougars supposed to be menopausal and in the chasers seat?

Halle Berry - In what bizzaro universe is Halle a cougar? rolleyes

Madonna- Well I dunno. Her hubby was in his thirties and already a member of oldsville just like her so in that regard she was not a cougar. However, when you look like her and have been married twice, anything is pretty much fair game. hmmm Maybe half cougar.

Sandra Bullock- see comment for Halle Berry

Ellen Barkin- She dated Johnny Depp for a hot minute in the 90s but has since dated men older than her. What gives? whofarted

Cher - Okay the only bonafide cougar on the list and she's fucking awesome. Besides she spent her youth on old ass Sonny Bono so get your freak on Mz Sarkisian! clapping

Demi Moore- I think she started all this cougar bullshit. Given all her cosmetic enhancements, I crown her cougar allstar! confused

So what do you think? Fair to call them cougars? Or is society just hating on the non-twentysomething females getting their love on?

I find the term funny, but yeah it's another example of the inequity.

The term doesn't mean any woman that dates a younger dude.

It means a woman that continuously frequents bars looking to exclusively hook up with younger dudes...and she's usually a woman that dresses half her age but looks hard as all fuck.

But even so, dudes do the same thing and they don't get called names. At least not generally. And they're not made to feel bad about it either I don't suppose.

Cougar has become such an acceptable term for an older woman with a younger man that they even had a dating show called....wait for it....."THE COUGAR".

Actually, men love the idea of the cougar (and so do some women), women do not like the idea of the dirty old man trying to pick up - it's just not celebrated like cougs are.

I just don't really see it as any worse than some of the labels we put on men.

I say cease and desist with the name calling/labels all together especially when it comes to women. there's no pride in a woman referring to herself as an overweight predatory wild animal! that's what a cougar is basically. I mean with shit like this, no wonder women feel the need to lie about their ages.

Exactly, and when you're talking about a superficial scene like that, everyone deserves a superficial term to describe them.

Plus don't we basically have cougars because so many men are agists? How many of those actresses I wonder had a hard time finding guys their own age because those guys wanted younger kitty cats?

My def of cougars was that they're not only older, but wealthier and more socially established than their prey/catch. They're boardroom babes or monied highrollers who like their boy toys younger, kinder, gentler but kinkier than their age and financial counterparts. The best prototype for this in pop culture for me would be Mrs. Robinson in "The Graduate" and Samantha Jones from "Sex In the City".

..and before anybody starts blabbing about how those were not realistic characters, I call bullshit on that. I've had older, mentor type girlfriends who were gorgeous, accomplished, monied women who just loved to have young d*** around the house, or rather, their house. lol They didn't look hard and they certainly didn't dress half their age lol . The one thing they all have in common though, hands down, is sexual appetite: I had British girlfriend, a music publicist in New York who preyed on her boys while wearing Max Mara suits, her unwavering criteria being that they iron her clothes in their bikini briefs. She didn't meet'em in bars, but she was very clear about the hook up and what her pets' duties would be lol

Interesting take on that.

But those women aren't cougs, they are Pumas and the real hot ones are Panthers.

Gurrrl, please. We were at an event here for one of her breaking artists, and I almost fell on the floor when she was scootchin' up to this young hottie. She told me "he won't have to worry about money, I have that. He just needs to stand, flex, and, fold my laundry"- You know who she looked like? A younger version of Jill Zarin from Desperate Housewives NYC. Same age range, wears the same type of dresses and everything lol

Even if you happen to look and feel physically much better than in your 20s? lol
Seriously though, I think this age obsession is ridiculous. I know people in their early 20s who look like shit, and I know people in their 40s who look much better than in their 20s.
And I think there´s nothing wrong with older women having younger boyfriends or lovers, even though I don´t think there´s anything better about them. I used to have an older girlfriend when I was in my mid 20s. ( 14 years older than I was, but it didn´t really bother us , nor did it make our relationship really better or more special just because of the age difference.People and society do treat you differently though, no doubt about that. People thought I was her boytoy or something, even though that was far from reality.)

Really, I think that age is nothing but a number if you know how to look after yourself. Most people simply have a more stressful lifestyle once they hit 30.
As a kid, you used to play in the park, socialize much more, eat better and more regularly, sleep more and better, didn´t worry about the IRS and social security and money and your job, and you burn more calories and dance more. Once the system gets the best of you, that´s when you start going downhill physically.

^ you said a mouthfull Kool. But let's face it we live in a society that favors the young. Age is a number really. It's a chronological number and a biological number. You can certainly be 30 and look 25 or be 25 and look 35 depending on your genes, your health, your stress level, your overall lifestyle but I tell you there are folks on the west coast and the east, i dunno about in between, who think it's all about what the driver's licesnse says. Younger is perceived as better. Unless you're talking wine or vodka.

I've seen troll catch successfull men just because they were fresh out of their teens while the same guy wouldn't look twice at a 35 year old. I've seen this happen with men too only not so much in the dating circuit but in the job market. Older men have a harder time competing for jobs against younger men.

But specifically, it's kind of insulting to call a woman a cougar for doing what men have been doing since Moses and not put such labels on men.
