Mach! (The Tarot) Someone has given me a tarot deck. The little booklet that comes with it gives 2 definitions based on whether the card is facing you or away from you.
What determines whether you place the cards facing you or away from you? Does it depend if you are pulling them for yourself or for someone else? Is there a process or is it based on feeling/instinct? [Edited 8/14/09 11:58am] 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

As you lay the cards down, they are facing you. Either upside down or right side up. If they are upside down then, in tarot meaning, they are "reversed" and the meaning changes.
Then again people can read cards in a million ways but what I've said is standard.

well the way i read mine, is i shuffle for a long while, while concentrating on the topic at hand...
depending on how they appear once i deal out however many i choose, i read them as they face me some will appear right side up and others will be reversed depending on how you see it is how you should read it [Edited 7/13/09 12:26pm] [...i think i can, i think i can, i think i can...]

I don't know whether or not to pull the cards right side up or not and wondered if there is a protocol. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

OMG a personal lesson! Such a pretty voice! OK, I pulled the cards and they were all right side up. Probably because the whole deck is that way My first cards were: The Emperor King of Cups 2 of Swords Emperor: Play by the rules and don't take shortcuts. Use common sense when managing resources. Now is the time to get organized and make plans. Careful use of logic and reason will deliver success. King of Cups: Go easy on yourself and accept what the day brings. Control your temper; don't take criticism personally. Try not to feel pressured by deadlines. II of Swords: Tensions begin to mellow. Help is on the way. Slow down and relax. You're entering a leisurely phase. Make yourself avaialable to others but don't spread yourself too thin. Since you pulled 4 cards, I'll pull a fourth card: Zero - The Fool: Take things as they are. Matters are proceeding as planned. Do your part to settle outstanding disagreements. Kill others with kindness and let them suffer the consequences of their actions. This is a good time to build your investments or remodel your home. Interesting that I pulled 2 ruling types The first time I pulled 3 cards and I didn't realize some of the cards were still stuck together so I scrapped that round but the 3rd card I pulled had a cat on it. The Zero card also has a cat on it. Recently the head of our department died and when I was talking with a coworker, we talked about this cat that came to her door, which she'd never seen before, and who she felt was our deceased boss. I knew the next time I pulled cards, a cat would be there. The cat showed up not once but twice. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

I hope she'll correct me if I'm wrong (however, I've done many accurate readings, so I'm guessing I'm doing something right ) [...i think i can, i think i can, i think i can...]

I wanted my first deck to be the Inner Child deck but I probably need a Tarot deck as well and I can't turn down a gift 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Sammi, how did your cards get jumbled up. Naturally or did they just get that way from repeated use? 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

You have to shuffle them before you read them... at least to my understanding i shuffle them like i would a normal deck of cards edit: oh and once i'm done with a reading i always put them back in proper order (marjor arcana, cups, pentacles, swords, wands) [Edited 7/13/09 18:02pm] [...i think i can, i think i can, i think i can...]

Just from normal use or are you shuffling and mixing them so that the cards have the possibility of being upside down (facing away from you) when you flip them over? And I like the idea of putting them back in order. Gives a fresh perspective each time 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Not sure what that style is called but I do both. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

And am I correct in that the tarot deck never changes? The artwork might be different but aren't the cards the same regardless of deck or are there different tarot cards depending on what type of deck you get? 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

The cards come as they are intended IF there are rules, that goes against my grain on allowing the cards to express themselves I always shuffle for a moment or 2 while "asking" for insight I lay the cards ( usually ) face down in a long spread out line and I allow my receiving hand to scan over them until I get a hit. I pick out the card then flip it over sometimes it is in a "reversed" posistion ... I do not manipulate ( force ) my decks to stay in a all upright, tidy posistion allow the cards to mix up and talk the way THEY want
