West Bank teen arrested in rape and murder of 8-month-old
by C.J. Lin, The Times-Picayune
Sunday June 07, 2009, 9:50 AM

Arnold RossA 17-year-old Terrytown man was arrested on charges of aggravated rape and first-degree murder of an 8-month-old child Saturday afternoon, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office said.

Arnold T. Ross, of 136 Friedrichs Road in Terrytown, was booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Facility. No bond is available on the first-degree murder charge.

Ross was arrested after officers responded to a call of an unresponsive infant at 1656 Gary Court, Apt. B, near Gretna.

The infant, Da-Von Lonzo, was taken to Ochsner Westbank where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, according to a release issued by Col. John Fortunato, a spokesman for the sheriff's office.

The death was initially unclassified, but the Jefferson Parish coroner's office later reported it as a homicide after an autopsy of the child's body revealed multiple fractures consistent with a beating and tears in the anus.
Ross, who said he was the boyfriend of the infant's mother, initially told detectives that the baby fell down the stairs while he was babysitting, Fortunato said. But a neighbor reported hearing loud noises coming from the apartment, and investigators noted inconsistencies in Ross's account.

Ross later admitted that he beat the infant repeatedly when he would not stop crying, Fortunato said. When the child began to defecate on himself, Ross said he tried to clean it up, causing the tears, according to the release.

Ross has a record of previous arrests for possession of crack cocaine and marijuana, obscenity, battery on a correctional officer, three counts of battery on a teacher, three counts of theft, illegal carrying of a weapon and assault

I was just about to post this.

Nearly 60 children are raped every day in South Africa and while experts agree to disagree as to the causes, or whether the pervasive belief in the so-called "Virgin Cure" prevents/cures HIV/Aids is possibly responsible for this deeply disturbing phenomenon, university researcher, Mike Earl-Taylor suggests it could well be a contributing factor, and a major one at that. Moreover, infant rape appears to be unique to South Africa, however, the Virgin Cure is not.

…not confined to South Africa as is popularly conceived, nor to the African continent as a whole, but is found to exist in most other developing countries with large numbers of HIV/Aids positive people in their populations.

India, with an estimated 3 million plus HIV/Aids sufferers, along with Thailand, both largely patriarchal societies, also has entrenched the so-called Virgin Cure within its belief systems.

The myth of the Virgin Cure has a rich and culturally diverse history stretching back to 16th century Europe, and more prominently to be found in 19th century Victorian England, where, in spite of the emphasis on morality, rectitude and family values, there existed a widespread belief, that sexual intercourse with a virgin was a cure for syphilis, gonnorhea, [and other STD's]. Syphilis, like HIV/Aids, was fatal in its terminal stages. In the Eastern Cape of South Africa, when a significant outbreak of STD's was spread by troops returning home from overseas after WWII, the Virgin Cure was widely sought among the population.

It's sad seeing how most of the replies here call for his castration or extermination. Hell, someone wanted to see him get raped to death.

Sad, sad... disbelief

I realise that. I didn't let anyone other than my mother and my mother in law look after my boys, and even then not until they were 18 months of age. NEVER did I leave them with someone etc, teenage babysitter etc. At 8 months of age, my boys were never out of my sight.

Any way beside the point. I can't get angry unless I know the whole story. Was this guy mentally challenged? 17 is still a kid in my opinion. Was the mother careless and poor in her judgement of character? I have a great many questions, and I'm not about to get up and demand an eye for an eye until I know exactly what happened.
If a sane adult person did this for no reason at all apart from pure evil, and that was proven, yes I'd support life incarceration. I bet this kid has a life-time of abuse behind him, the system has failed him - he had no hope to begin with. Fortunately the child in question is suffering no more.

hug most parents do everything they can to protect their kids but in most cases the monster takes the form of a person in trust.....they look and act like every other person. Which is why I question my kids and make they are always aware they can tell me anything about anyone ...this is because I know what the monster looks like....
There are not many people I trust with my kids .....nor will there ever be
and what about the 8 months to 13/14 years...what about siblings .....what postion does it put a parent in ..when a sibling molests another sibling

In cases where that has happened, I'm willing to bet that sibling has been molested by someone else, I think (and I haven't got anything to support this, just my guess) it's almost unheard of for a happy well adjusted kid to do that to a sibling hmmm it's totally fucking horrible and I can't imagine how devastating that would be for a parent cry disbelief

A scare...with myself ..no ...I experienced it...
As for my kids ...Taylor once said she didn't like the way her grandmothers boyfriend touched/hugged her (she was only about 9 and had never said anything to me like this before or since) .....(I got the creeps from him too) ..told my husband he was never to come to our house or be around our daughter again ...he agreed and told his mum he was never welcome again ( I know he hadn't done anything....but he was kinda icky...watching my sister in law breast feed till she was uncomfortable..too long hugs ...) Im sure that wasn't pleasant for my husband to tell his mother but he didn't hesitate ..he knows how I feel

I was to scared ...felt like it was my fault...remember feeling so dirty ..washing myself so hard..... they caught him though....but were in denial ...my Dad years later told me not to tell anyone because they would think badly of me .....I lost a lot of respect for my dad that day

thanks hun kiss2 We pretend when we see each other ..which isn't often ...once every 3 or 4 years ....I think though it has taught me to trust no one when it comes to my kids ...to be sooo wary ....
I guess I started talking to both my kids from the moment they could understand ..telling them that no one has the right to touch them ..that they can tell me anything no matter who it is .....it is so important that they know without a doubt that they can tell me anything .....about ANY PERSON ....no matter what they are told (remember that these people threaten)
