TWINS with different fathers

Dallas Twins Have
Different Dads
Published : Monday, 11 May 2009, 5:13 PM CDT

Peter Daut
DALLAS - Like most twins, 11-month-old Justin and Jordan have a lot in common. But it’s what they do not have in common that has a lot of people, including their parents, calling them a miracle of science.

“I have twins, but they’re by different fathers,” said Mia Washington.

The twins' parents contacted FOX 4, wanting to go public with their story. Washington admits she had an affair that resulted in two babies, born at the same time, fathered by two different men.

“Out of all people in America and of all people in the world, it had to happen to me. I’m very shocked,” Washington said.

The parents went to Dallas DNA Lab Clear Diagnostics after noticing the twins have different facial features.

According to the paternity test, there’s a 99.999 percent chance Justin and Jordan do not have the same father, and zero percent chance they do. The lab has never seen this type of result, nor do they expect to see it again.

“It is very crazy. Most people don’t believe it can happen, but it can,” said Clear Diagnostics President Genny Thibodeaux.

When twins have two fathers, doctors call it heteropaternal superfecundation. It’s so rare; there are only a handful of documented cases in the world.

“This is likely to be the only time that we will ever see this occur in the city of Dallas; it’s that rare,” said Dr. Chris Dreiling, who has not met the family.

Dreiling said the medical marvel can happen when a woman releases multiple eggs during ovulation. If she has more than one sexual partner within the same time period, sperm cells can fertilize two separate eggs.

The twins’ father said he’s forgiven his fiancé's infidelity and has vowed to stay with her and raise both boys as his own.

“It’s a day by day thing. It’s going to take time to build that trust like we had,” James Harrison said.

Washington admits her mistake, and wants people to know she takes full responsibility for her actions.

“I’m trying to let everybody else know: Don’t put yourself in my shoes, because it can hurt and it does hurt, but you still have to go on with life,” she said.

Washington said she plans to tell the boys about their DNA differences when they’re old enough to understand. As for the other father, she has no plans to tell him.

The same thing happened to twins in Amsterdam, I believe, where one was born black and the other white.

As for this trick and her mark-ass fiance: Just triflin' disbelief

so there remain 0.001 percent chance for a third possibility which would be.... what?? a virgin birth? eek

That's a different story. I'm talking about the one where I believe both parents were white but she was artificially inseminated and somewhere along the way a black man's sperm got in the mix.

Here it is http://listverse.com/peop...ary-twins/

Wilma and Willem Stuart, a Dutch couple had been unsuccessfully trying to conceive for years and decided to try IVF. They soon learned they would be parents of twins. When the two boys were born, Koen had blue eyes, dark hair and pink skin, Tuen had dark eyes dark hair and brown skin. A DNA test revealed that Koen was the Stuarts child but Tuen was not Willem’s. The report of the investigation has not been made public, but speculation is that a piece of lab equipment called a pipette, like a large eyedropper, had been used twice, causing another man’s sperm to be mixed with Willem’s. The hospital called it a “deeply regrettable mistake”. The Stuarts remembered there was a black couple in the waiting room the same day during the IVF process. The hospital located the man and confirmed he was Tuen’s biological father. Although he was under no obligation to meet his son he never knew he had, he did when Koen was 18 months old. The biological father only looked at him from a distance and didn’t try to claim him and was comfortable that the Stuarts loved the child, and let them continue raising him.

God, what an AWFUL situation disbelief My eldest daughter was conceived via IVF and it kind of does cross your mind that despite all the necessary precautions being taken, this kind of thing could happen. Luckily she looks just like me and her dad and her baby sister (conceived naturally) is the image of her.

I just can't imagine the pain that this situation must have caused all parties concerned.

As for the woman in the original post disbelief . There is medical evidence that a woman can actually ovulate multiple times in a cycle, so it's not absolute that she literally hopped from one bed to the other. There is also evidence that shows that a woman is much more likely to 'cheat' during her ovulation - nature's way of ensuring the continuation of the species? Whatever, it's still no excuse shrug
I'm not stopping. I haven't even taken my coat off

C'mon and dance while you, while you still have your cherry babe, cherry babe..

Crazy ain't it? I remember this family was featured on 20/20 a few times. Once before they knew what had happened and then another time to explain it and how the boys were adjusting to the situation. It was interesting to say the least.
