Ticket to Michigan

I was just wondering whether you people who how much a flight from Central Europe to Northern Michigan would cost. That would mean paying for about 3-4 flights, right? I had a look myself, but I'd like to know what you think the best and cheapest way to travel this far is.

Thank you in advance!

My girlfriend (not very active on the Org) lives in Northern Michigan for half a year as an exchange student and I would like to visit her if possible.

Is she in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan? Would you be flying into Detroit?

Dave - I live near Detroit - you might want to look at flying into Detroit and then taking a bus/train to northern Michigan.

That would take too long taking a bus or train from Detroit to Up North. If you have the money, I would just fly all way. But that's just me, I can't stand to be in the car too long.

That's a good point. I don't know which would be less expensive. Plus, I think he could get a direct flight to Detroit if the multiple plane changes were an issue. Do you know which airports are up there? (I have no idea lol )

Thanks for all the replies. The airport up there I'd like to attend is Chippewa County Airport (not sure whether I spelled it correctly).

So far I'd have to fly from Vienna to Frankfurt, from Frankfurt to Chicago, from Chicago to Detroit and from Detroit to Chippewa County, which doesn't make me happy at all! bawl

I fully agree with you. I think I'll rather spend it on a trip with her when she's back than on a flight to the U.S., where I'd only be staying for a few days, which would mean having to give another sad "Good-bye" for some time again. I've always wanted to see America too, but I guess a week is nowhere near enough to do that. Plus, because I would spend all the time I have with her anyway I would lose interest in getting to know the American culture for that time lol

Thanks for such good advice.

http://www.farecompare.com

Also, you can try flying Air Kuwait from Paris to NY, which normally is a couple hundred bucks cheaper than other flights.
Then fly a local carrier from New York.

A good place to start is farecompare because it figures out the cheapest days to fly in the year, and recommends different carriers.

Another handy booking site is Opodo - German version - www.opodo.de

You can do it with 2 stops - Vienna - Paris CDG - Detroit - Middleofnowhere. Not cheap though.

Depends on what your definition of close is. If you think that the sun is close to the earth, then yes. lol

All in all, about 2300€, which is beyond the amount of pocket money I will have saved by the time she's back for twenty years.

You may have to take a direct flight into Detroit from Vienna and then drive or take a train to the UP of Michigan just like applekisses said.
