Exactly unfortunately I need to hire a good lawyer and I am currently sick with their attitude. I'm like dude you want me to pay you $500 dollars an hour, you have to prove to me you have to qualifications to do the job I want done. I don't want to pay you and then have your paralegal do the job for $50 an hour, that is fucking insane.  If I am hiring someone for $500 he has to have 30 yrs experience and be able to quote me the law without referencing his god-damn book.. [Edited 2/1/09 13:15pm] | |

I work in a law office, we have 14 lawyers on staff. I would say I am friends with each and every one, they are not as bad as they seem. It's all smoke and mirrors, trust me. | |

I want a lawyer who can frame the legal issue(s) and go find the applicable law. As a paralegal (who's also been to law school) I would never deal with a legal issue without looking up the current state of the law. Guessing is malpractice because you could've looked it up and chose not to. If it's something that you specialize in, then I might expect you to be current on the state of the law in your field, but not the entire law. . . . I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think. | |

The best way to do it is to seek free consultation and meet with them present your case and I have a pretty good idea of what I want and what the law is (I researched it). If they are rude on the phone or in person, I don't call them back, fuck'em This is my problem, I so far have met with three different lawyers. I find the ones with the big offices are not really the smartest or that knowledgeable or honest with their billing either. Quote me 10 hours of work for $5K and today another lawyer quoted me 18 hrs of work for the same amount. That is a huge difference, wtf? Also I am seeking a full refund on my lawyer fees based upon the contract and if the other party wins they collect. I have felt a lack of respect with this attitude and I don't understand why someone needs to earn $500/hour off other people's sufferings! I went to film school and I have as large of student debts as they do, and I make peanuts compared to that. It's whacked! | |

No such thing in law. Different firms charge different rates, the quotes would naturally be different. Refund of fees based on what contract? If you lose, are you saying you have no legal fees? If we're going to meet and go over the facts, then let's meet. If the translator is going to cost $90 an hour, then tell me in advance, not after we are sitting at the BCIS office and have no choice in the matter. I'm just talking about basic respect. You can defend lawyers all you want, but I personally have had bad experiences working with them and it leaves a distaste in my mouth. I wish it weren't the case. | |
