Full HD TV

I let the master buy a 46" LCD set on Saturday (OK, I made him do it boxed )

but I find it weird to watch a movie on it, suddenly everything looks like a soapie omfg It's hard to explain, it's like before, things filmed in panavision looked like a MOVIE, now everything has that 'filmed in video' look, it's so clear! I've turned down the sharpness and contrast and it still looks weird to me!

confused

anyone else found this? hmmm

When I was 16, I fully expected to be able to build my own KITT car.

What brand did you get?

I can only speak to the Samsungs, but there are modes that adjust all aspects of the picture to preset levels for different genres. You may find something you like without having to mess with each individually.

This is untoward! This is not toward!

It has every tweak imaginable.
At night "movie mode" is good colour/brightness wise, I think I am just not used to such clarity eek it feels WRONG to me

There you go!

I will say, especially animation has a different quality in HD. On standard DVDs, if you're upconverting, they take on a different quality as well. I'd be interested to see if you can play a DVD without upconverting if you prefer the image quality.

I guess I could just play it through the normal DVD player and see hmmm

Horton Hears a Who seemed very "live" if you know what I mean.

There are 3 preset modes: standard - movie - dynamic
each of which are easily changed to suit, and you can press reset to go back if you mess it up. Is there an option to save new user presets too?

Not sure on that. I have no remote batteries to check with right now either. I haven't used the TV remote since the 1st setup.

What I did is use the THX optimizer that can be found on many discs to set my audio and video. You can order the glasses you need from www.thx.com. I've been very pleased with the results.

They are a filter. There are a bunch of colors on the screen. When you get them all the same shade of blue through the glasses, that is the optimal setting according to THX.

Did you mean the Samsung LN46A650?

These are the optimal settings for a dimmed (darkened) entertainment room. This might be too dim for a bright sunlit room, and you could adjust it a bit brighter after these settings are put in:

Sharpness: 0

Color: 52

Tint: G50/R50

Color space: Auto

Flesh tone: 0

xvYCC: Off

White balance submenu

sweet! im assuming that these work for most recent samsung LCDs?

when watching any of mine at night i typically have the backlight adjusted to a near lowest setting and put it on movie mode. The brightness hurts my eyes when watching tv in the dark.

i have this TV, but the one with the square base, and a 40" and a 36" samsung last years models (all black cases)
