My new ride

For this week, anyway.

I'm doing a 2,300 mile trip, from Seattle to Indianapolis. It's fun playing trucker.

Nope. I've got a BMW waiting for me when I arrive, but it's nothing special at all: 1987 325.

nod It's amazing how BMWs retain their looks no matter the model year. I liked them boxy like that. cool Oh, and have a nice trip.

Thanks. smile Yeah, the 3 Series BMW's from the 1980s are a timeless design. And they're very well-built. Even though they need a little more TLC than the average car, this one still drives wonderfully after 21 years and about 175,000 miles. Not even a single rattle.

My hope is that I can keep it running for at least 4 more years, after which it'll qualify for a historic/antique/collector/whatever license plate. We'll see how it goes.

I've been having a blast. smile The truck is surprisingly easy to drive. In fact, I don't think it's much harder than driving a minivan. There are really just three things to remember:

  • Set the mirrors properly and know how to use them (top mirrors for the lanes beside you, bottom mirrors for a wider view and your blind spots)
  • Swing wide when turning right, after first making sure you have enough room to do so
  • Try to avoid getting into any situation where you have to back up, especially with limited room for maneuvering

A little over 1,000 miles to go... over halfway there!
