Minneapolis Peeps! WHat is the cheapest way to get there from Chicago?

I was looking online and plane tix were about 300 or more! It's not that far from Chicago, so I don't get why the fare is more than it is from San Francisco to Chicago.

Are there any airlines like Sun Country that go from Chicago to Minneapolis?

What about Amtrak? How long does that take?

unfortunately, right now i think megabus or driving are your cheapest bets right now. it's ridiculous - this year, sometimes it's been cheaper to fly to new york than to fly to chicago. it makes no sense, but that's how it be. sigh

The last trip I took and the trip I'm about to take it ended up being cheaper for me to rent a car (that I shared the expenses with the people I'm traveling with) than to fly. Try Hotwire, it's been a real money saver for me.

The other option is taking a megabus. It can be as cheap as $1, or up to around $50 or so round-trip. Cheaper than greyhound, limited stops. It takes 8 hours. I haven't taken it myself, but I've heard it's not so bad.

Amtrak is pricier and I did it once about 11 years ago. The amtrak station is in St Paul, though, so you're almost better off taking a bus.

Have you taken the megabus? I've heard it's great, but I'm dubious.

Unfortunately, that would be because the Twin Cities, while considered one of America's best kept secrets, are not a major destination.

Actually, people travel between here and Chicago all the freaking time. There used to be a bazillion flights to choose from and you could find fares under $100 fairly often. Airfares have only gone insane since the beginning of this year.

whether it's a major tourist/vacation destination or not, i think it has been a very popular route for business flights.

Well, I am going to be going out there for work and all I have approved is my Hotel stay. Travel Budgets are tight! I assumed that flights were super cheap and said I could pay for my flight up there if work will take care of the hotel. Actually what I wanted was them to pay for the trip and I'd negotiate to pay for the flight if they balked. I should have checked airfare beofre saying anything. As it is, I can't afford a plane trip from ORD to MSP. I am thinking Mega bus or pushing to get work to pay for travel...or simply forget it all together.

I really want to make it out there, but I don't want to pay a lot for that muffler. wink
