Greetings from New York City - DevotedPuppy Appreciation Thread

Hey, just wanted to say "hi" from the Big Apple, and give an Org-wide THANK YOU to DevotedPuppy. Her advice and counsel has been GREAT! Can you believe a goofy Texan like me actually knows where to go and how to get there? (I am NOT wearing a cowboy hat, believe it or not.)

This has been a FANTASTIC trip! Thank you to Joni and everyone else here that gave us tips a few weeks ago!

She seems to be a lovely orger. We were trying to meet up with her when we were in NY but our schedules did not work out.
Hope to meet up with her if we end up in New York again.

touched Wait, I totally missed this thread--and I literally just got off the phone with RodeoSchro!! He was probably like, "She didn't even mention the thread I started for her!" lol

Thanks RodeoSchro for my very first ever appreciation thread, and one of the few times I have even been named checked here on the Org. biggrin I am glad you guys are having a good time in our fair city, even if the Sox are 2-0 in the series.

(And thanks Stymie & Shanti for not allowing this thread to immediately plummet into 2nd page oblivion. smile )

Just a bump for Joni!

The rest of our NYC story is unbelievable. We "hitchhiked" to Poughkeepsie! Long story, but it has a happy ending...

Yes, Joni is woot! sexy flower thumbs up! worship clapping highfive hug dancing jig bananadance bow hug heart heart heart mushy

On to the "hitchhiking" thing. We showed up at the Avis counter on 76th Sunday morning to get our car. However, I only use a debit card and they wouldn't take it! They said other Avis locations outside the city do, but that didn't help me - everything else was closed!

So there we were, totally stranded. But then a guy said, "Hey, I'm heading upstate right now. Do you want a ride?" DID WE?!?

The man's name is Benjamin McVey, and he's an artist. Go to www.bhmcvey.com to see his talent! AND, he's a Texan - not only that, but he grew up one neighborhood away from me. What a small world!

Anyway, he, his wife and his mom were going to look at a possible rent home purchase, and offered to drive us anywhere we needed to go - at least, as far north as Saugerties. But we went to his apartment and looked for other rental car places that WOULD take a debit card, and finally found one in Poughkeepsie. So, Benjamin and us loaded up in the Vibe, made the drop-off at Poughkeepsie, and me and my son got our car. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate that guy!

Cooperstown has been fantastic, too. But I really want to say how much I've enjoyed meeting New Yorkers. Never have I met nicer people! Everyone has gone out of their way to help us and send us to the right places. Cheers to New York and New Yorkers! woot!

That's true, mostly because I don't know that many people in NYC with cars. lol Hey, you should come hang out with us this weekend--we are going to hear Days of Wild at the Bitter End. Check out the fan meetup section at HQ.

eek Wow, that is an amazing story. Firstly, I can't believe the place wouldn't take a debit card. You'd think that would be better than credit, because it means the money is coming directly from your account, not on 'credit'. Strange. Secondly, I can't believe you hitchhiked! omfg You are way braver than I. Although, you are also a tall guy with a son, whereas I would be a lone girl. lol I'm glad everything worked out and you had a great time in Cooperstown. And that we New Yorkers were nice! woot!

Are you going this weekend? I was supposed to work on Saturday, but I found someone to switch with me. woot! Girl, I am so tired from last weekend...Friday and Saturday night 'til 4 in the morning, but it was a blast.

Joni is lovely and very intelligent and well spoken. I've hung out with her on a few occasions over recent years, and I've always had a great time chatting with her. She's good people. nod

Touché. lol

(I felt I had to change my name b/c as a Gemini, I cannot be tied to just one username. That and I needed to get out of a multi-million dollar contract with Warner Bros. nod )
