Anxiety

if you're in the mood for music shopping, make sure to drop by dusty groove and reckless. if you stop into reckless, tell them anxiety sent you! they'll just give you a blank stare, but it'll be something to do.

The Belmont/Clark area is cool for shopping. LOTS of record stores along Clark too.

FOr Food, Chicago Joes has excellent Ribs/BBQ or Cafe Baba Reba is great for Tapas. Oh and lots of good Indian Food near Belmont and Clark.

Places to see...Aquarium, Art Institute/Museum of Modern Art, Field Museum, Millenium Park, Drive down Lake Shore Drive at night

Things to avoid...Navy Pier, Mag Mile, Taste of Chicago, Sears Tower

Clubs...Berlin Nightclub, Smart Bar, Green Mill, Schubas

The Museum of Contemporary Art or the Art Institute.

Also, if you want to go to the top of the John Hancock building don't go to the observation deck, go in the main lobby and tell the guards you want to go for a drink at the Signature Lounge on the 96th floor. Be sure to check out the windows in women's bathroom.

I also really like the architectural boat tours if the weather is nice. Chicago is like a 3-D guide to modern architecture.

And vinyl digging on Clark STreet. Start just north of Fullerton (HiFi & Dave's) and work your way north to Reckless at Belmont and Broadway(?).

If you will be there on June 29, you must go to Prince night at Berlin Night Club!

No Prince night in June because of Pride stuff that weekend.

eek You MUST visit the shiny silver bean in Millennium park. Have an Italian Ice, Shop at the Water Tower, and andandandandand...Visit Navy Pier. There is a shop there that sells the most orgasmic fudge in the world. Sure, it will add about fifty eleven pounds to your rump, butt...it is SO worth it. Oh GOD is it worth it.... eek
Hell, get thee to Club Berlin while you're at it. wink

I just hate Navy Pier because there's nothing there. I think it's the most visited attraction because it's free. It's nothing more than a bunch of crappy "mall" kiosks that sell junk--dreamcatchers and figurines and shit. barf And there are all sorts of damn kids running around everywhere because I think the Children's Museum is somewhere around there. Plus it's sort of out of the way to get to (unless you take the Chicago Ave bus?). Even the ferris wheel is overrated. My ex- and I went on it a long time ago (when I first moved to Chicago) and it only went around once and that was the entire ride. rolleyes

If you want a nice view of Lake Michigan, go to North Avenue Beach--at least there is a bar on the top of that boat house, or try Oak Street (although that's a bit too pretentious for me), or just north of Diversy Harbor---no bars or anything at Diversy, but you can sit on a little overlook and see downtown Chicago.

i wouldnt waste my time there or at the Water Tower, why waste you time looking at shit you cant afford or you can buy else where.
If you need to mall shop for some reason go to Schaumburg Woodfield Mall. But to me thats the last thing I want to do when traveling abroad.

When I was in Chicago staying at a friend's place (to see Morrissey in chi-town), I stayed with her in Boys Town. Clark is a great street for shopping!!! So many neat things! hehe Definitely Berlin! I had a fabulous time there. Afterwards, a snack at the Pick-Me-Up Cafe is the perfect thing! Halstead Street was pretty cool too.

Like Fishermans Wharf here in San Fran, Navy Pier is very over rated and croweded. It's why I cannot recommend it. Yeha and the er MCDONALDS farris wheel rolleyes. Considering that there is SO much to see and do in Chi-town, I think one could skip it and still not be disappointed.

Never heard of it. There are many cool places to eat in Chicago. There is this one that has a Skeloton riding a motorcycle perched on a pole. Has a great breakfast. It called Twisted Spoke and is located at 501 N Ogden. Best Bloody Marys in town!

Hello. biggrin

You are picking a great time to come. Aside from the rain, both Chaka Khan and Stevie Wonder are playing free concerts here.

As a lifelong resident, I suggest you check out downtown Chicago at night. It still amazes me after all this time.

Get some Garrett's popcorn off State Street.

Make it a point to have breakfast at Army and Lou's.

I have heard of Tommy Guns. There is a show and dinner package if you are interested.

If you wanna try Chicago pizza, go to Gino's East on Rush Street.

Feel free to contact me. biggrin
