Cutting down on medication, in a good way

My health is a matter of the chicken and the egg I think, nobody knows whether my RLS and prestage to an ulcer is because I went undiagnosed with bipolar disease (is that the term, don't think so) type II for so long, or if it had to do with my weight or something else but recently I've made some health improvements: I lost 40 lbs (!!) and I've been able to cut down on my stomach acid control medicine to every other day instead of every day,the pain killer for the RLS from two or three a day to just the one and sleep meds from 2/1 to 1,5/0,5. I'm very happy about that naturally, for all kinds of reasons. I'm very well aware that I will be eating mood stabilising medicine for the rest of my life but my goal is to get free of the other ones, my internal medicine doctor says I'll probably need .the acid control always too but the rest... it's expensive and I don't want to pollute my system any more than necessary. My migraines have also decreased in number so the tylenol and naproxen needed is also less than it was before. It's all a good spiral, yay! yay!
Have you managed something similar, has it occurred to you to try or did you try and fail? I feel a great sense of accomplishment when my doctors remark that it's been way longer than I'm allowed when I go to fill a prescription. smile

i am trying to stay as med-free as i possibly can for as long as i possibly am able. i know one day i will not have that luxury, but for now, i do my best not to rely on prescription drugs if my doctor offers viable alternatives.

i've seen people close to me spiral out of control from getting tangled up in too many prescriptions, and i don't ever want that happening to me.

Yep, that's the exact reason I'm cutting down. I have an addiction personality, which is what they call us who have family members who are or have been addicts, so I'm likely to get addicted to something during my life. I have been addicted to the internet and Coca-Cola but that's it and immediately when I realised it I kicked the habits but the painkillers... they're a danger and I won't fall into that trap. talk to the hand Both my parents take so many meds, both of them because of things they did earlier in their life, or my dad still drinks. So stupid but I won't go there.
