Anyone had Shingles?

I have got Shingles in my face and omg it is not pleasant at all. My nose is swollen and blistered and my eye is starting to close. Not pretty. sick

Anyone know how long this will last for? I have been signed off sick for a week but I reckon I'll be off longer?

I know 2 people that have had it. First person was male and he had it mainly across his back. He was off work for about 2 weeks from memory.

Second person was female and she had it on her face. She did not work but i seem to recall her being unwell for a few weeks.

Sorry it is not more positive. I also seem to recall something about it possibly effecting fertility in men. Was a colleague so i did not enquire in great detail.

Hope you feel better soon.

ps Mavis was ill in Bristol but still gave her whole. See Maceo on Thursday. Say hi to Katt for me.

My aunt had them on her face and in her eye a few times. I recall hers lasting about two weeks. My mom had them on her back but did not know it at first. The dr gave her two meds, one to clear it up an done for pain.
Sorry to hear that you are going through this.
I have heard that it is really painful.

I hope you feel better soon.

I'm sorry you're ill.

A lady I knew had shingles on her rightside back a couple times that I recall. I believe her rashes lasted approximately 3 weeks or thereabouts.

Take good care of yourself, and feel better soon. rose

I've looked into it a bit more and there is no mention of fertility being affected. That is Mumps.

My fac looks like I've gone 10 rounds with Mike Tyson! Not pretty.

Thanks to you all for your advise.

P.S. Mavis wrote us a letter. She was amazing. Gonna definately have to miss out on Maceo now! Damn. Hoping Prince Plays Manchester!

Sorry to hear that mate, I have heard that shingles sucks big time - figure 2 weeks off work. As long as they get you under medical control there are no long term ill affects.

Get Chicken pox good and proper when you are a kid, then safe as houses.

get better soon

Cheers mate. Had chicken pox as a kid. It is because of that that I have got shingles. The virus never completely leaves the body. Just my luck.

It should be cleared up by the party tho!

Yea, you are exposed as a kid and it it is a combined response of your immune system and a second attack by the virus that gives your shingles.

Sucks anyway!

wave One time 5 yrs ago

One large sore on the curve of my neck came up on a camping trip. We thought it was a spider bite. It was very very painful. It was gone in 3 weeks

I had the chicken pox twice ( bad ) when I was a child as well

My MD friend kept an eye on it for me at soccer games while I treated myself with essential oils

I had shingles about 10 years ago (or so I thought).

It started on my lower stomach and the inside of my thighs and the itching was unbearable. I told several work buddys about it and nearly all of them said it sounded like shingles. one of them also kindly informed my boss, who sent me directly to the doctors cos' apparently it's highly contagious!

Anyway I get to the doctors thinking I'll never be able to show my face again at work, (they'll all be thinking I'm skanky!!!) but the doc just gave me some cream treatment to rub in..

Turns out it was only crabs!! wot a relief.. lol lol

Shingles come from Chicken Pox. I don't know exactly how but you can get them because you had Chicken Pox. My mother had Shingles on her back last summer and they lasted about two weeks. The doctor told her that she could be contagious to small children and the elderly.

A former co-worker had them. She was completely stressed out and broke out in shingles. She resigned a month later. You need to go the doctor if you haven't already.

Chicken pox is a form of herpes virus. Herpes viruses never go away - they go dormant and hide in nerves.

It's very important to get to a doctor and get a dose of anti-viral medication - especially if a nerve on your head or face is involved. A herpes outbreak in your eye is no joke.

I have never had the chicken pox that anyone is aware of. I have been exposed to ppl with chicken pox and shingles.
Since I am an adult...I really hope I never get the chicken pox.

shake you definitely do not want to get Chicken Pox as an adult. I got them when I was 31 and I was miserable for two weeks. My whole body ached like I had the flu and I was taking showers at midnight trying to alleviate the itching/uncomfortableness.

My Doctor finally prescribed me an antihistamine which helped some, but it still sucked.

It is very rough getting them as an adult.

my aunt had a bad bout... then got them again! this time they knew what they were dealing with so got medicine. apparently if you start it soon it helps reduce the severity of the outbreak quite a bit!! the second time wasn't nearly so bad.

now, people... this is why the chicken pox vaccine is a good idea! kids that don't get chicken pox will never be 80 year old women suffering in bed with sensitive skin from shingles.

pat but sorry you have to go through it too cutie

About a year and half ago, I mentioned to my oncologist that I kept getting strange sensations in an area that went from the middle of my back across one side to the middle of my stomach. Like my skin was ultra sensative and stung a little bit.

He said I was describing a text book case of pre-shingles. He put me on Valtrex for two weeks. No sores ever popped up and the strange feeling went away, never to come back.
