i'm thinking of asking my congressman to put in a bill to mandate large companies require telecommuting from home wherever possible.

I save at least 15 dollars a week in gas money working from home 2 days a week.

If you multiply that by just 10,000 people in my city and spread that across the top 50 cities in the US. that has to have some kind of downward pressure on prices.

This is insane.

I doubt theyy can force companies to do that ... it isn't really applicable to some environments. It can be stimulated but I doubt whether it can be enforced.

We moved daylight savings time for stuff like this. lol

That cost companies millions in reprogramming their software tied to the old daylight savings time dates.

If I didn't have to have a car, I wouldn't. I positively hate them, I really do.

If I get the new job I've applied for I'm planning to ride the bus to work in the monrings and walk home 3-4 days a week. It's about 7 miles, I'm guessing.

7 Miles is nothing on a bike. You could look into that option.
walking--it can be a bit much. lol

falloff

I kinda followed the patch craze last october/november from a distance ... MS came with 3 or 4 versions of their DST patch and then all questions started to pop up about applications ... what about Oracle ? Apache ? SAP ? Siebel ?
falloff falloff

don't forget ... nowadays it's all software ... even more with server/desktop virtualization ... it's all software !!!

I can guess a lot of companies made millions over this shit too !

I'm just not a bicycle kinda girl. lol Plus I can't get hot and sweaty on my way to work. Yuck. (Remember, it gets hot and humid here in the summer and I have a fairly strict dress code at work, I'm supposed to wear suits every day.) I can bring clothes (or at least shoes) to change into to walk home in. 7 miles isn't too bad. I do 4.5 when I walk around the lake by my house. And it would be a lovely walk home, all around the chain of lakes in Mpls.

I hated it. I support software distributions for my company (approx 200,000 employees) and EVERY one of my projects not tied to the DST shit was delayed due to the DST ones taking precedence.

It cost us millions. lol

So yeah--I can see congress requiring companies to allow work-from-home for workers who can do it--it makes sense to me. I work from home 2 days a week. If everybody , who could do it, worked from home for 2 days a week, the environmental and economical impact would probably help a great deal.
Of course, I wouldn't REALLY know. lol

The gas prices are breaking my heart! I sort of remember when gas was .99!

It cost $106.12 to fill up a Range Rover with a 28 gallon tank.
U only average 10-12 miles per gallon.

I've been telecommuting for almost five years. woot! It makes a HUGE difference for work and personal well-being. I'm in between assignments right now and when I get calls from companies that want me on site EVERY day I don't understand it. disbelief My friends think I'm spoiled but if I've been doing this work from home for almost 6 years WHY do I need to travel to your office EVERY day??? confused It's a business culture thang. Too many companies think they have to be big brother for people to be productive, which isn't true.

Diesel??

I saw on some channel this weekend on how to make ones own diesel fuel from resturants' old used french fry grease, from what I understand resturants will just give that stuff away just to be rid of it. It ended up coming out very cheap something like less than $1 a gallon.

That's what Willie Nelson runs his tour bus on. I think it's called bio-fuel.

bio-diesel.

from what i understand, any diesel engine can run on it. they say that technically, you should be able to go to the grocery store and buy vegetable and peanut oil or something like that and run a diesel engine with it.

in fact, i think that's the fuel that the original diesel engine was designed to run on.

but it's been a long time since i heard/read about this stuff, so i may be wrong lol
