food prices are going through the roof too, at least here in CA. it fucking sucks. $3.99 for a gallon of milk? disbelief

it's a fucking joke ... farmers earn more when they use their acres for growing crops that can be used as biofuel, ... unfortunately most of our food is grain-based (wheat, corn, and stuff), hence the price increase. We're killing ourselves nod

I thought Corn can be made into fuel. At least that's what they said on 3-2-1 Contact!

What are u paying 4 gas? I'm at $3.49/gallon for premium.
I'm spending well over $150 week.

Wow, you're either driving a lot or driving a huge vehicle

I spend that much per gallon and spend about $35 a week. I drive a Corolla, and sometimes I roll into the pump and the person before me spent like $70 to fill their tank. Amazing!

Also, I think the Europeans are pointing out some valuable info. Americans actually have cheap gas! hmm I wonder why...

lol Contact!

Supposedly all the corn in the world would cover maybe 10% of our gas needs.

Food prices are killing me.

And your milk's much cheaper than ours: last time I was at Safeway (it's rare), whole milk was over $5/gal.

And we're surrounded by fucking dairy farms.

Is the temptation there to just sneak out into the middle of the night with a bucket and milk a cow?

As a kid, I had friends with dairy farms, so it was done sans temptation. smile

But we stole lots of wine grapes.

Basically people who get their food from supermarket dumpsters, and their furniture from the sidewalk.

This price is $.70 more than it was last year.

If I could drive a motorcycle in the snow, I'd be saving some gas money.

I was $1.14 a litre the other day. mad

I think it's down to $1.04 today.

I dunno what that translates in price in gallons.

Spare a thought for us. It was about 95 cents a litre last time I saw, and that was a couple of months ago. It's probably over a dollar here now.

So, about $3.60-$3.80 a gallon in a country where the average working class person makes no more than $180 a month. neutral

My father in law has an income of about $100 a month so naturally he can't afford to run his old Corolla anymore.

yeah, but if you make it into fuel, you can't use it for food anymore ...

I saw some documentary a while back (can't remember what exactly, so I have no actual "source" ) but they were talking about the pros and cons of using corn for fuel. They said if we really focused on that, and started to use it in a big way, that the amount of corn needed to produce enough for lots of fuel and the process it has to go through to get it to that stage and available to the masses, it would actually harm the environment as well. hmmm (horrible run-on sentence there! omfg )

It seems were doomed. We've already fucked things up beyond repair that's pretty clear. sad
